Comments Thread For: Groves' Trainer: Carl Froch Will Implode Like Mike Tyson

Paddy Fitzpatrick, trainer of George Groves, is prepared for the possibility of IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch losing his marbles in the planned rematch for May 31.

He says Froch might loses his sense after dealing with weeks of high emotional drama in the lead-up to the fight, while reflecting on last year's first meeting where Groves dropped him hard and hurt him numerous times. The boxing public pushed for a rematch, with many believing their first fight was controversially stopped as Froch tried to finish Groves off in the ninth round.

It's perhaps not a bad idea for Groves' trainer to start the mind games he's obviously playing already, as Froch seems quite susceptible when people try to get under his skin in these high profile fights. I still believe Froch will be able to handle the pressure once the bell rings. Froch TKO again.

Froch = Tyson in the rematch with Holyfield is not a valid comparison.
Tyson lost his first fight with Holyfield, whereas Froch beat Groves first time around. Yeah, it was a bad stoppage by the ref. But Carl still won the fight.

Does Groves's trainer know who Carl Froch is? I'm beginning to suspect he doesn't.

That's a strange incoherent sentence. Carl only won because he was gifted a stoppage.

Regardless, I don't really think Fitzpatrick believes what he's saying. Carl Froch is a cool cat and he's not going to implode at all - he'll give it his best.

But there's something about Groves that gets under Carl's skin, it's uncanny.

Froch didn't handle the mind games well last time, so you can see why Groves and his trainer are keen to do it again.

Groves is almost certainly going to do well in the early rounds again, he's a faster starter than Froch and a speed advantage often seems most effective early on. This recent talk seems like an attempt to goad him into going for an early KO.

                Fitzpatrick WTF?

Maybe signs that the Groves camp are nervous and want to put doubts into Carls mind to take away his most potent weapon - the fact that he believes he is indestructible. Carl won the last fight and he knows it, you cannot take that away, it tops anything Groves did in the fight. Groves camp are trying to push that memory aside.

Carl always delivers winning performances on fight night so all this talk is just bull.

Im not going to say team Groves should zip it, because post fight talk is interesting in the build up.
But sometimes you think what someone is saying is such rubbish you realize just how important getting under someones skin is, because otherwise they wouldn't or team Groves wouldn't say it ordinarily and under normal circumstances.
