There are zero unification opportunities for him at 160. What is Sanchez talking about? Quillin is on Showtime and Sturm is gonna Sturm. If Sanchez himself is saying Martinez is never getting in the ring with Golovkin, then why the hell is he sticking around at 160 for? There's an article every freaken week with Sanchez saying it's not going to happen. What opportunities haven't been exhausted?
Martinez also said he wanted to unify 154, but nobody wanted to fight him so he moved up. In fact, pretty much every freaken fighter in the world says they want to unify the division before facing the realities of how impossible it is. It's a non nonsensical goal.
As someone else pointed out I don't see how his position is much different from Ward's. The whole argument about him moving up is as valid as saying Andre Ward should do the same. Infact I'd say GGG has more valid opponents at his weight class than Ward does at his. He can fight Andy Lee (Which while isn't spectacular is OK) and then fight the Sturm/Murray winner in Europe, a Daniel Geale fight would still be interesting too. He can have a solid 2014 at middleweight... Ward however has no legitiate challengers at 168, I mean who else can they even sell a fight with right now? Stieglitz? Lol, not gonna happen. Stevenson/Kovalev vs Ward at 175 is interesting, more interesting than GGG vs Ward at 168 imo.
I desagree only in that part where you say that his position is not much different from Ward's. Ward cleaned up 168 long time ago and is still there. GGG is still not lineal champ, not a unified champ. Quality of his boxing that we see when he's fighting fringe contenders (including those that had lineal champ Sergio on the floor) allow us to assume and speculate that he's the best MW in the world. But it's only speculation even if it does look like true. He has to fight the best (even if that is formal) legit middlewights to become lineal MW king.
Ward's only buisness at SMW is waiting for GGG to go up there. And seriously against WARD there only one danger - loosing on points. For Ward against Kovalev and Adonis there's real danger of being KO'ed.
This is just beyond me why people say that GGG is ducking Wared and Wrad is not ducking Stevenson and Kovalev?
The problem is team Gennady put the horse before the carriage. Sanchez made the statement they will fight anyone...anytime....from 54-75. Then he says, oh we eant to clean iut the division first. Tom Loeffler never made a statement, to my recollection, about what they are pkanning to do. All we know that GGG is fighting four times this year. I took the comment as a grain of salt. The comment was meant to get people talking and it worked. Everytime GGG team is aksed about a fight, they say "where not ready yet". But what hapened to anytime...anyplace? Cant have it both ways.
Now had they made his current statement first, then people would be willing to be more patient and not attack him. This would put more pressure on Strum, Quillon, and Sergio. But to say u will fight anyone anytime and not be expected to be called called out on it is dumb. Moving up is his best option. As one poster said, GGG can fight Bika, collect a belt, and if he knocks bika out, the talk grows bigger. At that point fans will say Ward couldnt stop him, bit GGGG did, thus causing more momentum to build for the fight.
no **** man but dry facts like it is
don't like it? - change tha channel then *****
Am i lying calling him a can crusher? - nope
Was he fighting light middleweight stiffs being middleweight champion - yes
Have they bought him that belt - yes
Is he going to fight another either middleweight bum or light middleweight stiff - yes
facts son, nothing but
So I'd like for him to add more positive facts to his resume. Becoming lineal would be one
Interesting... a link? Now that would be an intriguing matchup imho.
Thanks
Ted
