LIES are annoying. Williams fought Marg's in 2007 because Williams was made the #1 challenger. Wbo ordered the fight and in house Bob tried to sue to prevent the match, why? Because Al Haymon was Williams adviser at the time. Dan Goosen won the purse bid and the fight went on. After that Williams lost in a title defense against Quintana. The same Quintana that Cotto destroyed the year before in Cotto's first fight at welter weight. Williams defeated Quintana in a rematch, then Goosen offered Margarito a reported 4 million dollars for a rematch but no surprise Arum said no, instead Margs fought Cotto, two top rank fighters again. Williams moved up and vacated to fight Verno Philips. Meanwhile Cotto coming off a pretty bad loss took what amounted to a sparring session against Jennings. Williams' vacant belt was put up after the fight was announced, not before. Goosen sent out offers to multiple fighters but no offers to Cotto (the article that proves this was posted earlier on this thread,) Winky Wright excepted the fight and Cotto went on to fight Clottey. After, Cotto went on to the biggest fight of the year against Pac, which many believe is why Cotto was given the vacant title against Jennings. At this time Williams was already in negotiations to face Kelly Pavlick, which Pavlick pulled out of 3 times before he was finally replaced by Martinez. Marg's never ducked Williams, Arum wouldnt allow the rematch. Cotto and Williams' paths never crossed, they were never on a collision course and William's was never the #1 challenger to Cotto and vise versa. There were never any offers made from Goosen to Cotto and there was literally no point where they could have fought. If your soul stance is Williams called out Cotto once or twice, then by your logic Cotto has been ducking Mundine for years.

When a fighter is signed under a promoter, the promoter has to approve the fight unless a title holder is forced by a sanctioning body to fight the #1 contender; in effect a fighter calling out another fighter from a different promotional company is just creating gossip because it holds no weight. A fighter can be said to be ducking when they are offered a contract that received promotional approval and that fighter turns it down for no reason. A fighter can be said to be ducking when a sanctioning body orders a fight against the #1 contender and that fighter vacates rather then fighting. Neither of these happened so stop creating BS.

Sergio has a higher chance at beating Rubio than Cotto does vs any belt holder. Another loss and he could kis that Canelo fight goodbye, whereas canelo would fight Sergio. You shouldnt get to come in second vs the lineal champ who does have a good name. Martinez can bring as big a crowd as Cotto can in his "home town" so its irrelevant.

Cotto can fight some nobody but that wont get him what he wants. He's not favored vs Lara (if Lara beats molina which he should).. Definitely wouldnt be favored vs the Canelo-Angulo winner or loser. Kirkland is a toss up. Floyd he loses handily again... Quillin beats him, Sturm probably too, and lets not even mention GGG. Martinez is about as far gine as Cotto, maybe more but hes a slightly better fighter and he's at lEAST a toss up with anyone barring GGG. Martinez is at the tail end of his career and as a proud and respected champion he's not going to concede much at this stage. Cotto is popular but he's no pac or Floyd.

Sergio is already fighting in Cotto's venue, probably HAS to win by KO, will likely concede to the name but i'm not sure how Serg feels about coming out second again.

Anyway, it could be a rehydration/rematch clause or gloves or ring size or something holding up the fight for all we know.

Sergio doesnt strike as the kind of guy to stall negotiations over money unless its ridiculous so i doubt it's that.

I think it fair for Cotto's name to be first in his venue/promotion but walking out second as well? Ehhh if youre not the favorite or MILES ahead in popularity that's kind of questionable.

On a side note I was watching a spanish show last night and a puerto rican dude was like "Cottos got this" super confident and the mexican and other dudes on the show kind of secret cringed and didnt say anything and had that kind of face like "Bless his heart" lol. Was like a mexican talk show

Anyway really like these two fighters and hope it gets made. They both deserve the limelight.

                  • It's Cotto's fault that he wasn't approached about a fight with Williams when PW had to delay with Cintron. It's Cotto's fault PW lost to Quintana and what little marketability he had was gone. It's Cotto's fault he was wronged by one of the biggest villains in recent memory and didn't fight PW immediately after. It's Cotto's fault Williams jumped to 154 and never came back down.

                    Yup it's all Cotto's fault

Cotto called the shots so the burden lays more at his feet. Like I said, if Margarito had beaten Williams we all know Margarito-Cotto would have happened sooner. Cotto never had any intentions of fighting Williams. And this nonsense about Williams moving up as if it means he wouldn't have moved straight back down if a big fight came up.
