If Margarito had won, there wouldn't have been Cotto-Mosley. It also seems to me Willams wasn't particularly hungry for Cotto either. Nonsense? Did every fighter have to contact and challenge PW or else they were ducking? Come on Dirk. There was never a right time for Cotto-Williams. The one time there was, both took different fights. Cotto fought Mosley, a better known and higher ranked WW. Williams signed for Cintron, then Quintana shortly after the delay. This is NOT ducking, not by a long shot.

How could Mosley be higher ranked than Williams? Williams just beat Margarito - a long reigning champion for a belt. Mosley had no belt. Yes he was a bigger name so I understand that fight

However, Cotto's aim should have been to fight Williams afterwards. It was the best fight at Welterweight after Mayweather "retired". Williams wouldn't have signed to fight Cintron or Quintana if a Cotto fight was a possibility. Top Rank had already seen their Cotto-Margarito plans wrecked once by Williams so they didn't want to risk that again.

I am even less of a fan than Williams than I am of Cotto but it's preposterous and laughable to suggest that he didn't want to fight Cotto. The guy was absolutely desperate for a payday at 147.

Williams was already in discussions with Cintron when Cotto fought Mosley and then negotiated with Quintana and Judah immediately when Cintron withdrew without contacting TR. He then had his last WW fight not long after. Of course Williams would fight Cotto, but he and his promoter sure didn't seen as eager for it as the PW myth leads us to believe.

To call this ducking is an incredible reach and means almost every single fighter ducks each other. You need to contact and challenge everyone, if not, duck.

It's Cotto's fault he was wronged by one of the biggest villains in recent memory and didn't fight PW immediately after. It's Cotto's fault Williams jumped to 154 and never came back down.

            Yup it's all Cotto's fault
Had Margarito won, he would have been positioned to oppose Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico, the WBA welter ruler. Arum had said that this match had been signed.

“I'll fight Cotto next,” volunteered Williams. “Let's sign the papers.”

Arum has other plans. He said his intention is to put Cotto in with Shane Mosley. “Obviously, that's a much better fight,” Arum said.

No one is questioning Pauls desire to fight Cotto. Your calling it a duck on Cottos part when its clearly not.

Cotto-Mosley was a great fight... Bob got something right.
But this is not a duck. If a fighter has better, more lucrative options he would be foolish not to take them. This is prize fighting after all.

Ring ratings in 2007 at welterweight...

                  1.Miguel Cotto
                  2.Paul Williams
                  3.Shane Mosley
                  4.Antonio Margarito

Cotto fought the number 3 and 4 fighters in his division... they were also by far the two most lucrative options for him. To label this as a duck is ignorant. Its business, and this is prize fighting.
