cotto was going to fight margarito 11/07 if he beat williams. there would not have been a cotto/mosley fight. so if it's all about money, then why set-up a margarito fight over mosley to begin with? margarito was not bigger than mosley then.Last edited by Big_L; 01-24-2014, 08:04 PM.Comment

Really? Cotto did nothing to deserve that #1 ring ranking, which by the way doesnt mean anything because only the rankings from sanctioning bodies carry weight, so for instance, when Paul williams was the champion Cotto was not ranked as the #1 challenger to the WBO title, Margarito was. But to your BS that Cotto didnt deserve #1 status, take a look at Cotto's opposition from his first fight at welter weight in 2006 up to 2009. Now look at Paul Williams for the same time frame. After that tell me who does not deserve to be ranked in top 5. If you say Cotto after that then your obviously a hater. Before you point out Alfonzo Gomez was coming off a win against Arturo Gatti, who was on the decline but still a big name and Gomez went 7 fights with out loosing, and was Cotto's tune up to face Margs. Micheal Jennings was a come back fight after Cotto's bad loss, and Jennings only had one loss at the time. its also not Cotto's fault that the WBO made Jennings the #2 contender putting up the vacant belt after the fight was signed, and no longer ranked PW because Williams vacated the title when Arum turned the Margs rematch down, and Paul Williams never came back to welter weight. PW never chased Cotto, the two were never simultaneously ranked as contenders for the same sanctioning body, in fact the only time they might have been able to fight is if Williams had won the first fight against Quintana, which he didnt. Paul Williams turned his attention to regaining the title and relentlessly chased Margs for a rematch even though PW was the winner of their first fight. And if Cotto was considered to be the Higher ranked of the two then the lower Ranked is the Challenger, which means PW would have to challenge Cotto which never happened, This fight was never even close to being made aside from PW calling out Cotto once or twice. and as I said before if that is your logic then Cotto has been ducking Mundine for years.Comment

I'm sure Margarito gave Cotto a higher % of the split than Mosley did. Cotto was the first fighter with a big name that gave Margarito a shot. Tony was dying for that fight when he got it. Mosley was an established name and I'm sure that split was pretty close to 50/50.Comment

Thats extremely easy to answer if you know the fight history of both fighters. Ill lay it out for you. Mosley moved up to light middle weight in 2003 to fight Oscar De La Hoya. Mosley Stayed at light Middle Weight for the next three years and as a result was no longer ranked at the welter weight division. Mosley had also just defeated Fernando Vargas in a title eliminator, because of the close score cards at the time of the stoppage,Mosley was ordered to fight Vargas again. After that Mosley Moved back down to Welter weight on 02/10/2007 and defeated Louis Collazo for the interim WBC title, which led to Mosley being ranked as the #1 contender to Cotto's WBA title. Margs lost to PW, then won his next two fights winning both the vacant WBO intercontinental title and the Ibf welter weight title which led to him being ranked again as the #1 contender to Cotto's title after the Mosley fight. By this time PW was trying to regain the title he lost to Quintana, the rematch took place on june 7th 2008, Cotto Margs fought 1 month later, july 26th 2008.
So lets take a look. Paul Williams beat Margs then went on to lose against Quintana, then rematched Quintana to regain the title 3 fight time frame: 07/14/2007, 02/09/2008, 06/07/2008.
Margs lost to PW then fought higher ranked opposition and gained two titles to becoming ranked #1 contender to Cotto's title, 4 fight time frame: 07/14/2007, 11/10/2007, 04/12/2008, 07/26/2008.
Cotto fought two #1 rated contenders Zab Judah, and Shane Mosley, tune up against Gomez, then fought #1 contender Margaritto, 4 fight time frame: 06/09/2007, 11/10/2007, 04/12/2008, 07/26/2008.
Mosley fought Fernando Vargas in a rematch then moved back down to welter weight winning a title becoming ranked then facing Cotto, 3 fight time frame: 07/15/2006, 02/10/2007, 11/10/2007.Last edited by KnickTillDeaTh; 01-25-2014, 03:07 AM.Comment

"The negotiation is already 80 percent. What we are missing a good minute details," said Hector Soto, Miguel Cotto Promotions vice president.
"We are in the process of how the event will be called. They're important details that have not allowed the fight to be closed, but Gaby (Peñagarícano, legal adviser Cotto) is already working on that. We are working to be called 'Cotto- Martínez. "But Sergio is not fully agree."
However Soto said negotiations could be concluded as early as next week as apparently no sign of an early agreement.
"I understand that for next week should be all square," he said.
A source said Cotto full credit will be the first to step into the ring on June 7 and also the event will end the name of 'Cotto-Martinez'.Last edited by DoktorSleepless; 01-24-2014, 10:19 PM.Comment
