I'm arguing that it's not a duck on Cotto's part and that you can't blame Cotto for not fighting after Mosley when he was never contacted when Cintron got injured and pulled out. Williams wanted $$$ and big fights at WW and I'm sure would have loved to fight one of the most popular fighters in the sport. But he didn't go out of his way for it to the point where Cotto ducked him. There were never serious negotiations for this fight to ever take place.

Alfonso Gomez was a tune up for Margarito on a necessary showcase card for both him and Margarito to build up their fight in july of that year.

Arturo Gatti was the number 8 fighter in the division when he was destroyed by Gomez.

Williams wouldn't have signed to fight Cintron or Quintana if a Cotto fight was a possibility. Top Rank had already seen their Cotto-Margarito plans wrecked once by Williams so they didn't want to risk that again.

I am even less of a fan than Williams than I am of Cotto but it's preposterous and laughable to suggest that he didn't want to fight Cotto. The guy was absolutely desperate for a payday at 147.
Actually fighting Mosley looks better in his resume. Mosley had win over De La Hoya, Vargas, and he fought Winky and Forest.

What I'm hearing is excuses as to why he wouldn't fight Williams. Your justifying Alfonso Gomez? Really?

Funny, the double standards in boxing.

If you had read all the post leading up to that one you would understand its not an excuse... its just a logical explination as to why the fight never happend... no one was ducking anyone

This is entire thesis behind my argument and all the other Cotto fans' argument. No one is calling PW a ducker, but Cotto didn't duck him either. Period.

sure but not really, he just got destroyed by baldomir and baldomir was a bum. that was a "this fighter is popular" ranking. like cotto being #1 at 154 while doing nothing or broner being in the p4p top 10

amazing stuff a solid two days worth of debate regarding PWill v. Cotto...as the old adage would suffice to explain "timing is everything" and essentially the timing just didn't correspond for this fight to have went down...unfortunate.
