Because that's the nickname he chose for himself? Same with Amir Khan. Neither are particularly apt but you're allowed to choose your own nickname. I don't believe Cotto has ever referred to himself as King and I don't know why he would. Just seems a random thing to call a guy who lost his last significant fight comfortably. You seemingly have no logic for the name.

So Cotto was supposed to jump 154 entirely and just go to 160 and fight Martinez? One fight in a weight class is pointless, useless and that's when Sergio started calling out Cotto after 1 fight at 154. Manny did the 135, 140 and 154(150) farce of moving up in weight, even with 2 losses at 154 I respect his title reign 100x's more than Manny because his title wasn't vacant and he actually defended it, even against average competition. Also like you say there is some middle ground, it goes the same with money too. You aren't going to jump up another weight class unless you are ****** (broner, Josesito Lopez vs Ortiz then Canelo) and in the end this is also a business. Martinez for a couple million is not worth the risk I acknowledge that, now that he actually brings some money and fanbase he is worth the risk.

Back then Sergio Martinez had little leverage. So he could be forced to bend to certain conditions. This time around Martinez has much more leverage than back then.

Cotto says - I want a catchweight. NOPE! I want to walk out second. NOPE! I want to (fill in the blank). NOPE, go to hell! Martinez has leverage this time so he can do that. If Martinez were negotiating with Pacquaio and Mayweather -- trust, he will bend backwards and forwards because they have toooooo much leverage against him and the payday would be greater. Cotto doesn't have that going for him.

But like I said, catchweight or no catchweight, I think Cotto wins and exposes Martinez. The one thing I think Cotto should request is random drug testing. But I think Cotto is foolish enough to not even demand for the one thing that matters more than any of that other ****.

But what does that have to with the fact it was a fight at catchweight upon the request of Cotto?

It makes the CW completely irrelvant because it took place at a higher weight in the first place. For example, if Manny fought Floyd at 144 and Floyd lost then asked for 150 or something I wouldn't give Floyd **** because he asked for CW it took place at a higher weight in the first place.

No way in hell was Martinez going to 154 lbs to fight Cotto. If it were Mayweather or Pacquaio, it's a strong possibility. He'd risk killing himself for the payday itself. But not for Miguel Cotto, no way in hell. Martinez struggles to make 160 lbs, just like Canelo struggles to make 154 lbs. Just like many of these fighters struggling to make weight at divisions they really don't belong in.
