I'll talk down on CWs when they're for lineal titles and I'd have done the same to Cotto if he had requested one against Martinez.
So CWs are okay when the opposition is good?

I don't mind catchweights. What's so bad about them? They've been around since forever.
Agree with the title thing though. Not a big fan of them in Title fights but Titles don't really mean anything now anyway.Comment

I don't believe Martinez is washed up but I don't believe he is young and fresh either. There is a middle ground. I think even a past prime Martinez blitzes Cotto because of the styles and the fact that Cotto is arguably more washed up than Sergio is.You implied that Cottos team believing that Martinez is washed up only to be sorely mistaken gave the statement that very impression, I don't know how exactly that is supposed to read (he won't be tired at the end.) You apparently live or are from the UK... I'm Puerto Rican/Cuban and I have a better understanding of the English language, that's pretty bad.
While I can agree with hedging his bets (that is exactly what he did) having a better chance at beating Sergio has nothing to do with it. Any boxer thinks they can beat anyone you can't afford to think any other way. In reality, beating Canelo does nothing for Cotto there is no belt at stake and if he were to win Canelo would just become another hypejob. Believe it or not the simple fact of the matter is that beating the lineal MW champion of the world, in your 4th personal weightclass is worth more than 10 million dollars. I mean seriously, how is IMPROVING your ****ing legacy a step down from fighting a popular red head. I'm not even that old and it's sad that boxing "fans" think this way... You should even be in the fighting game if you think 10 million is worth more than the legacy status Cotto is going for.
Canelo was, by all accounts, a bigger payday. Most fighters would take the money but Cotto is hedging his bets knowing that that money will be there whatever happens against Martinez. I'm not saying he doesn't think he can beat Canelo but he's seen more cracks in Martinez.
And stop with the legacy nonsense! I'm a boxing fan but I'm not ******. If Cotto had cared so much about his "LEGACY", why did he say he didn't want to fight Martinez a few years ago because he didn't bring any money? LOL....fail.Comment

Plaster, plaster, plaster, plaster. Why is Carlos Molina nickname King? He's never been P4P #1, not of a division. Why is that his nickname?
Roach said that dude during the post fight. If he changed his opinion, then I missed it.You can't be serious. Roach is the first to mention the catchweight. He's on YouTube saying it. And then Sergio Martinez had this to say too about the negotiations:
I mean, Cotto even wanted to walk out SECOND, and have Martinez walk into the ring first like he's the challenger!
I like Cotto, but I call a spade, a spade. If they fight, I will be there @ Madison Square for sure way up in the front. I think he beats Martinez IMO. But I'm not gonna sit here and front for Cotto.
http://espn.go.com/blog/dan-rafael/p...ive-cotto-shotAs for the weight, Lewkowicz said Martinez would be willing to come down to fight Cotto at a catchweight as low as 158 pounds.
“Freddie Roach, who I respect a lot, said [after the Rodriguez fight] that he wanted it to be a full 160 pounds, so the weight will not be an issue,” Lewkowicz said. “I believe Roach is right in that it should be 160, but if it’s 159 or 158 we have no problem with that, either.”
And didn't PW ask for the same exact things Cotto is asking for? Martinez accepted them then. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying Sergio seemed to understand they were necessary to get the fight made.Last edited by El Angel; 01-20-2014, 07:43 PM.Comment

So Cotto was supposed to jump 154 entirely and just go to 160 and fight Martinez? One fight in a weight class is pointless, useless and that's when Sergio started calling out Cotto after 1 fight at 154. Manny did the 135, 140 and 154(150) farce of moving up in weight, even with 2 losses at 154 I respect his title reign 100x's more than Manny because his title wasn't vacant and he actually defended it, even against average competition. Also like you say there is some middle ground, it goes the same with money too. You aren't going to jump up another weight class unless you are ****** (broner, Josesito Lopez vs Ortiz then Canelo) and in the end this is also a business. Martinez for a couple million is not worth the risk I acknowledge that, now that he actually brings some money and fanbase he is worth the risk.Originally posted by Dirk Diggler UKI don't believe Martinez is washed up but I don't believe he is young and fresh either. You know I'm not a Floyd hater. I respect what he's done and I know 2 pounds wouldn't have mattered against Canelo. It's just the principle of it being for the lineal title of a division that irked me.
I've never, not once, complained about the CW Cotto fought against Pacquiao. Not once.Comment
no need to make fun of the cotto fans guys, at least cotto has the balls to keep getting beat every time he steps up.
