So is it because they want Broner to avenge his loss to do some damage control to save their future ppv star? Or did he lie about the clause in the beginning thinking Maidana could potentially fight Floyd? Not sure why he would lie.
He never lied the first time around he's lying now if I was Madaina I'd tell Shafer Broner needs to go back to the end of the line

No its not. The only way in which you could consider fighting the guy you just beat again is a) if the win was controvertial and could have gone either way b) if you just stop boxing, and maybe a year or two later happen to end up boxing the same guy for whatever reason.
Maidana dominated Broner the entire fight. I mean it wasnt even an early KO where you could have argued a lucky punch, it was complete domination all 12 rounds, no questions left unanswered. And you do a rematch 4 months later?
This is just like saying, wait, this is the guy that was supposed to win! Lets do a rerun!
Maidana can fight anyone right now, from Floyd to any boxer with a good solid name, hopefully a title too. He can fight anyone but the guy that comes from a humiliating loss... against Maidana himself!

This is the exact answer. You don't get to executive director in an investment bank without showing the ability to generate profits in ****ed up ways.

Fight who? He isn't getting a Mayweather fight whilst Khan is around period, he doesn't want to fight thurman, and he isn't going to get anyone from Top rank. So what are his options exactly? Garcia at 147? Khan? No he has a Mayweather fight. So what are Maidana's options?

maidana will be selling himself short if he agrees to a immediate rematch.

theres plenty of guys out there for him to fight, matthyse , garcia , jmm, thurman, porter. and some of those guys have belts too.

and regardless if he happens to win or lose to any these guys. the rematch with broner is still there.

                Q. When does a promoter lie?

                A. Whenever he talks.

note: whenever his lips move is also acceptable.

Bascially GBP panicked because they never expected such backlash to a Khan fight.

In their mind Khan has been set in stone since before Maidana-Broner happened. When Maidana won they still didn't realize the implication thinking it would be easy to guide public perception that Khan is the better opponent.

Only after the fight, and after Schaeffer gave his comments on Broner's best interests, did GBP see that boxing fans actually preferred Maidana and there was only lukewarm interest in a fight with a guy like Khan who hasn't won an important fight in years.

Now they are in damage control mode to try to preempt backlash to announcing Khan as an opponent.

For Khan-Mayweather to have even a slight chance of being successful with hardcore fans they need to rule Maidana out on a technicality and avoid criticism.

I guarantee GBP went to Broner's team at a certain point and said "if you exercise this clause and lose we will protect your career by guaranteeing you another big money fight regardless of result".

How so? How is Adrien protected when he as a good chance of losing?
GBP could say that terms with Khan was not "agreeable".

They could have told broner that if he exercises the rematch option and lose you are ****ing done with us. Don't rematch after Maidana is fed to Floyd.

He was a banker for Cryslers sake, no surprise in that.
