when it comes to pure defensive ability

If you are giving the choice only of those two I'd have to say Whitaker was far superior. Far more supple body and better reflexes. And he could box and punch too.
But for supreme defensive skill I have seen nobody nearly as good as the forgotten Nicolino Locche. Look up a couple of his fights. According to the old time experts, he was the closest thing in the century to Young Griffo. And if Griffo was as good as Locche then he was a defensive marvel and deserves all that has been written about him.
Locche's record, considering that he was really feather-fisted, is superb. over 100 wins and only 3-4 losses. I believe he beat Carlos Ortiz ..... I recall that he drew with him at least.Comment

How many fighters beside JLC have hit at least 25% of their total punches on Floyd?
Cotto 21% total punches
Even then in the rematch with Castillo, Castillo hit only 22-23%. That first Castillo fight is the only fight Floyd was outlanded in.Comment

Again I've watched and loved both fighters so for me to try to choose really bothers me. I lived to watch Pernell fight, some of my most fond boxing memories are watching his fights with my friends. They were true boxing fans so no one ever talked about the fact that Whitaker had so few KOs, they appreciated what he did too much.
Considering both fighters however I give Mayweather an edge in skill and dedication.Comment

Not mad, just a little baffled is all. It's just weird that whatever poll the man is involved in, he gets misrepresented by supposed knowledgeable fans. The poll could be "who ties there shoes better Floyd or Spongebob" and y'all would say some bullshit like "the Reeboks Floyd fights in come with a strap, not laces. Spongebob wins this one all day" lmfao, shit is mad crazy bruh.Comment

If you genuinely believe Pea has the superior defense, more power to you. You can make a legitimate argument for your position. But if you're one of the many lames who just here to pick anything that's not Floyd, well more power to you too lolComment

Very well. I will say that I have noticed you being very pro Mayweather in other threads unrelated to this subject. You must really think highly of him based on what I've read.Again I've watched and loved both fighters so for me to try to choose really bothers me. Not at all. That's all in your mind. Not mad, just a little baffled is all. It's just weird that whatever poll the man is involved in, he gets misrepresented by supposed knowledgeable fans. Do you understand that Floyd's specifically involved in polls with ATGs and legends? No one's putting up Floyd vs. tomato can x threads.
People specifically pick polls where it's as tough a challenge for Floyd there is. It wouldn't be fun if it was, Floyd vs. Butterbean, who's the better technician in the ring?
For example. There was a poll with Manny/Duran, and who's resume is better. The Pac stan in me would be mad that most people were picking against Pac, but the non biased side in me, picked Duran, because that's what I truly felt.
I didn't think that was a Manny bash thread. So, you shouldn't think this is a Floyd bash thread. Look at the poll for God's sake. Whitaker's up by 1 vote.Last edited by BUNGALOWS; 01-10-2014, 12:01 AM.Comment
