No **** motherf**ker, how do you think he got that bad ankle? He landed on it awkwardly because he was in the midst of a Pacquiao flurry. **** happens when you're getting touched up.

Matthysse got that bad eye because Danny gave it to him. Part of fighting.
You could make a case for that if "Danny gave it to him" with punches, which isnt the case. I get it that there can be accidents, but when that "accident" goes along with a dozen other illegal blows then its no longer an accident but a dirty stragey to win against someone he couldnt beat otherwise. Cant blame him for trying, but you shouldnt be allowed to get away with that in boxing or any other sport.

True that, mayne. Like I said I was pretty damn intoxicated during that fight, all I remember is being pissed during the late rounds because it was apparent Garcia was pulling away with Lucas having that bad eye. I had dreams of Lucas collapsing Danny and the camera immediately panning over to get Daddy Garcia's face. Wasn't meant to be.

Would love to see a rematch but it doesn't seem likely at the moment.

It happens. Garcia took advantage of something that sometimes just happens. You can't deny him his credit.

Only problems I have are when people deny that Lucas was in control at the time, and when they pretend that Danny landed some great punch that caused it, or that he landed so many times on the eye to cause it. It was a freak injury caused by a grazing right hand that might have even been the back of the glove. Five seconds later Lucas's eye is closed.

Again, it happens, but I hate when people pretend it didn't change a fight that Lucas was winning. It's a very interesting question, what happens if it didn't happen? Maybe nothing changes, maybe Lucas continues his momentum and stops Garcia.

Never replace "actual history" with "alternate history"...

The fight went the way it actually went.

Garcia seemed to have Matthysse's number, not sure if Lucas would have beaten Danny if he had three eyes on that night.

The eye did change what was a close fight and it wasn't caused by a punch, but it also wasn't intentional, which you can clearly see in the video.

That's not to say that Danny would not have won. I had Lucas winning this one easily in the build up and was gutted with the result. but after a few re-views, Danny had a pretty solid game plan, which perfectly countered Lucas' success in taking away Dannys left hook, So it could still have gone either way with or without the eye.

All things considered, there was only 19 or so punches in it at the final bell and boxing needs more matches with humble guys like these, who are not throwing around demands or turning the sport into a soap opera (Angel can be a pantomime baddie sometimes).

Both showed class post fight and would be good role models for any up and coming fighters.

                  Rematch please

Garcia MADE that eye close. The fight was close, Garcia was winning the rounds

Even with the swollen eye and the low blows I scored the fight for Matthysse
