When you're the lineal champion at a weight, I think it shows you have considerable skill at that weight and that you're the best in the world at it. Asking them to fight #1 contender isn't asking too much.

Meaningless? So top 10 contenders don't count for anything anymore?

Cotto is a great champion and a true professional. There's no reason for anyone to try to discredit him. I just wish all great fighters conducted themselves in the same manner.

If they are crappy fighters then yeah sure, they shouldn't count for anything. Also being in the top 10 doesn't neccesarily mean you are a contender.

Perhaps on paper but not if you look beyond it.

Mayweather isn't a Jr MW. He comes to the ring at 150 lbs and has never weighed more than 151 lbs at a weigh in.

We know he only fights at 154 for huge money because that's not his weight.

It's like if Cotto wins against Martinez and expecting him to fight Golovkin next despite the fact it's obvious he's not a MW and he will definitely be returning to his actual weight which is JMW.

JMW isn't Mayweathers weight. He fights there when a big money opportunity comes along and solely for that and does it whilst being very small for the weight.

Didn't Floyd and Manny fight Shane 4 and 5 years later? Yea, they did.

It isn't his best and most comfortable weight, but I think he's skilled enough at it to defeat Erislandy Lara. Obviously though, as you say, it doesn't bring enough $$$ to bring Floyd to play ball.

Perhaps but it still isn't his weight though.

He's probably skilled enough to beat some of the contenders at 160 it doesn't mean that's his weight.

                    His weight is 147.
