Forget answering the question, the real issue its trying to figure out the thought process that came up with this and decided it was worth posting as a thread.
Is Mayweather Really a PPV Draw?

ex girlfriend's entire family right there. They don't even follow boxing, know nothing about it, only order Floyd fights in hopes of seeing him lose, lol. It's ******. If you don't like boxing like that, don't waste your money on something so trivial ffs. You clearly don't care that much about the fight if you enjoy 24/7 episodes way more than you do the fights.I know people who throw watch parties for Floyd fights...and they all f**king hate the **** out of him. They buy his fights hoping to see him lose. They all complain that his fights are boring as f**k (which they are) yet they get the fights anyways.
You'll get delusional ass motherf**kers on this site who say that the majority buy his fights to watch his greatness but that's a bunch of bull****. Most people hate the **** out of him and hate him so bad they'll drop 70 bucks just hoping to see him get KTFO. If he had Andre Ward's persona nobody would give a damn about him. His fan base would be Andre's. He's a villain and that's why he sells.Comment

He is, but he's also very crafty with the dates he sets, the opponents he selects and the fighters he has on his undercard. There's a good reason why he still wants Canelo to continue fighting on his undercard, and why he wants Broner on his next card. He realises such a supporting lineup would help sales a great deal (certainly in the case of Alvarez.)
Not that he'd ever acknowledge such help, mind. Mayweather could have Cotto-Alvarez on his undercard and fight a rematch with Robert Guerrero and he would take sole credit for the big numbers it would generate.Comment

Mayweather draws more when he fights name opponents with built in fan bases, thats just common sense.
Does that mean Floyd is not a draw? How many PPV buys were his opponents getting before fighting him? How many fighters in PPV history could draw like Mayweather can?
Floyd is a draw.Comment

He's a brilliant ring businessman. Outside the ring he doesn't even know what "allude" means but sport wise he's got it down pat. You have to be a villain. And not just any villain, but one of the biggest in the sport. In combination with that you obviously have to be a terrific boxer. Which he also is. It was the perfect storm for him to become the PPV draw that he is.He is, but he's also very crafty with the dates he sets, the opponents he selects and the fighters he has on his undercard. I mean seriously, if he was a nice, quiet, shy Floyd Mayweather -- what would his PPV numbers be? They'd be laughable. Hell he probably would still be fighting on regular free HBO cards. Look at Rigondeaux. Rigo could breeze through his next 15 fights against top notch comp and he still won't sniff PPV.Comment

Take away Floyd's trash talk, wife beating, ducking and all that personal dirt, he'll still be hated, especially by casuals. Why, because he's not as exciting as Leonard, Tyson, Duran, etc.I know people who throw watch parties for Floyd fights...and they all f**king hate the **** out of him. They buy his fights hoping to see him lose. They all complain that his fights are boring as f**k (which they are) yet they get the fights anyways.

So no. He's not a real PPV draw. Fans pay hoping that he'll get KTFO. Aside from supporting him with strong undercards, fans need to have the perception that his opponent truly has at least a 50-60 chance of beating him. Otherwise, it will flop.Comment

We all know that was the UK fanbase
Cotto was the Puerto Ricans
Mosely is an anomaly, I'll admitComment

The same kind of mentality that can give Floyd credit for nothing, that comes here day after day posting moronic thread after thread meant to degrade and insult Mayweather. This stopped being about reason a long time ago, now its about emotion and vitriol. NSB needs a resident therapist more than it needs someone with insight into the sweet science.
These are the facts right here, but in NSB you might as well be speaking in hieroglyphs.Mayweather draws more when he fights name opponents with built in fan bases, thats just common sense.

Whites, browns, yellows, or purples don't care for this black dude. Green is a non issue when you imagine finally seeing red seeing this black clown bleed or knocked down. I know a lot of browns order his fight specially the Mosley fight and jumped together as one when old black cracked black clown's chin.
But hey Floyd is all about the rainbow, good for him.Last edited by mrpizza-nd_beer; 01-06-2014, 07:49 AM.Comment
