Ward is a better draw than Rigo and does better numbers.
HBO doesn't back Guillermo anymore...but they back Ward eh?

You took the time to create a username and post on a boxing website. You and I are not casual boxing fans. Ward is MUCH more marketable than Rigo. Sadly to say supreme skills aren't always appreciated.Comment

I agree. I enjoy watching Rigo fight and rate him above Ward and Mayweather PFP. Rigo fights clean and hits hard. Ward is terrible to watch in my opinion. In California he gets away with his illegal holding and hitting and head butting tatics.Comment

Supreme skills don't always equate to entertainment. There are plenty of fighters who had ultimate skills yet were entertaining. Rigo's problem is that he just sits there and waits. He doesn't Initiate action/offense and has no killer Instinct even when his opponent is there to be killed. He's like the Tim Duncan of boxing. Extremely talented but does nothing exciting.Comment

I agree that the Agbeko-Guillermo fight wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, it just amazes me that a fighter like Agbeko who is known for throwing lots of punches decided he wasn't doing that in this one.
Just because of that, you have to wonder what a skilled technician Guillermo is, when a former champion thinks twice before trying to land a shot. Even Nonito was careful when he tried to land something on the Cuban.
Ward has his accomplishments, skills and marketability, but at the end of the day I rather watch Guillermo school these guys than see Ward try to overpower his opponents with not so entertaining clinches and headbutts. Guillermo had a killer fight vs Robert Marroquin where he was rocked a couple of times because he was took out of his comfort zone and the guy just went forward, maybe we will see this again if he ever fights Leo Santa Cruz, HBO has to let that fight happen, or if it does happen Showtime will surely pick it up.
About his marketability, well he is no entertainer on the ring, but I guess as a hardcore fan of boxing I see beyond the ring. When I look at Guillermo I see a humble human being who left behind everything in his life for a change at something greater. You see he's no clown and barely smiles, but that's because no one knows how difficult his life has been and just because he's no loudmouth and doesn't prance around about anything material, we want to cast aside one of the actual greatest in ring boxer from Cuba.
I see HBO president's views, because it is a business after all, but don't say that and feed me Ward like he' Provodnikov, Alvarado, Rios-type of entertaining, because he is not.

So what?? He had Donaire backing up and reduced high output fighters to nothing. OK, he's not exciting, put him on an undercard. But do not go out of your way to actually (slander) the fighter because his skill set is not appreciated by those who're relatively uneducated boxing critics.Supreme skills don't always equate to entertainment. I disagree with the entire premise of your tread. You're bashing/comparing 2 fighters who're genius's in the ring for the same type of dominance. I understand being upset that Rigo gets critiqued. But he and Ward are in the same damn boat.I agree that the Agbeko-Guillermo fight wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, it just amazes me that a fighter like Agbeko who is known for throwing lots of punches decided he wasn't doing that in this one.

So why bash Ward for that?? If I were gonna do some bashing I'd bash stars who are ppv fighters looking to fight the likes of Amir khan while being universally recognized as the sports best. That's bash worthy. Not a winner of the super-six and an injury plagued fighter trying to scratch a living. That's lame.Comment

Answer me this. If rigo is trying to make a name for himself and is fully aware that hbo and his promoter are unhappy with his non fan friendly style, and he has agbeko in front of him. A guy who isn't throwing any punches......why didn't rigo go in for the kill against a guy who isn't doing anything?? Agbeko was there to be unleashed on and rigo decided just to be rigo and do nothing more than just outpoint him. He had a perfect opportunity to showcase his power and close the show yet chose to play it safe against a guy who was just standing in front of him.I agree that the Agbeko-Guillermo fight wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, it just amazes me that a fighter like Agbeko who is known for throwing lots of punches decided he wasn't doing that in this one.

I don't think anyone can say that they don't recognize nor appreciate rigos talents. But at the end of the day he's not good for business. Even putting him on undercards may kill the mood for a main event fight. Lol. It's sad because he has true talent but he's a liability to the networksSo what??
