What is interesting to me is the significant drop off following manny losing. A lot of posters say floyd's ppv sales will drop as soon as he loses because a good percentage of buys are made just to see him lose.

Manny lost and his ppv sales plummeted somewhere betwen 700-800k units from the JMM fight. That is ASTOUNDING. There is no way TR figured this would happen.
I don't know if it was a success or not, and don't particularly care. It's Pacquiao off a loss against Brandon Rios, with a crap undercard, in China. How many buys could Top Rank have expected?

When your previous fight sells 1 mil ppv's and your next sells under 475k-its not an achievement no matter how you try and spin it.

The estimates for floyd ghost are 890k -1 mil units sold.
Do u apply the same standard for floyd when he did 2.4mil against Oscar then in his very next fight against Hatton he did 1.6mil less?

Lol at guys looking at it as a bad ppv numbers,

I'll tell u this, arum is a silly old mother****er and he knows boxing biz more than anyone alive, he knew that the numbers would not be huge since its a test run but actually it was brilliant, he never lose money coz the venetian already paid the event, so the computatation will always gain.

What it the event did for top rank is

It introduced boxing in the asian market, wherein the next ppv event of top rank will be available in ppv in china, if the revenue from the phil and china are also computed as ppv buys. Imagine how much would hbo's profits would be in the next fight. That's what you call investing.

If the asian market platform would be perfected, then imagine what revenue it would bring tr. No wonder gbp is also planning to invade the asian market with khan in dubai? Coz they ****ing know that it's huge money than focusing mainly in the u.s.

Oh and we all know Canelo and his fan base is what brought those numbers in his latest fight, just like DLH did.
Let's say Canelo & ODLH fan base brought those numbers in...why didn't Pac do better numbers with Cotto, Oscar, JMM? Why is it that when those guys fight Floyd everybody seems to tune in...I don't understand how people can't see that Mayweather is a big factor in those numbers...if not then he would consistently out sell Pac vs common opponents. If you are a true fan of Pac then when he fights it would never be a secret, you would know, so talking about promotion & overseas stuff is crap...

They expected enough buys to get manny an additional $12 mil. We know they didn't expect a sales drop off between 700-800k units.

Its fine if you don't care. I'm just asking that you not cosign that Bungalows BS.

No. Same way I didn't for manny going from odh to hatton or manny going from 1.25 with cotto to 700-750k with Clottey.

Did you feel floyd/hatton was a flop?

Soooooo by my logic PACQUIAO that came from two losses fighting another one from a loss (RIOS) with poor undercards like GRADOVICH-DIB,etc...made great numbers;watch the undercards of JUNIOR's fights and if you have some brain you'll finally understand,MANNY does these numbers only with the main event. Nobody of MANNY's team is crying for JUNIOR because they are all smiling about a possible JUNIOR vs KHAN fight!!!aahahahahahhahaahahah

well by your standards yes. U say that going from 1 mil to 400 - 500k is no achievement. Yet floyd went from 2.4 mil to 850k in his very next fight. Mind u both floyd and Hatton were both undefeated and the fight had crazy buzz. To drop off 1.6mil PPV buys from 1 fight to the next is much worse than dropping 500k buys especially when you're coming off of 2 "official" losses while your opponent is coming off a loss himself. Also hatton was a much bigger draw with a much bigger following than Rios by far.

Rumor has it that Guerrero/floyd did anywhere from 700 - 900k. In Floyds very next fight he did 2.2mil with Canelo. Hmmmm. Wonder why?

Speculation continues to run rampant over how well – or poor – the November 23 pay-per- view event drew, airing live from CotaiArena at the Venetian Macao in Macau, China. Reports from Top Rank’s offices suggest figures in the vicinity of 500,000 units sold, which – even if accurate – would make for his lowest pay-per-view output since his June ’08 lightweight belt winning effort over David Diaz. Thanks Pop. Been looking for something on this.

I remember when 500,000 used to be a good number.
