He started landing in round 8, Groves was visibly tiring and then he was going to stop him in the 9th before the ref stepped in.
Credit to Groves for the first half, but it was becoming a Froch fight from 7-9 and he had him in bad shape. The ref has cost Froch a clear win.
I feel bad for Froch, I wasn't keen on the way he was carrying on pre-fight but he is a warrior who came through and doesn't deserve to be booed when he did nothing wrong.

Neither fighter should really be criticised after their respective efforts from last night.

George Groves @StGeorgeGroves 12h
Truly gutted. I played my part and from what I've seen of the footage the ref made a terrible decision.. I will demand my rematch RT

A new star is born, and Froch looks like a right wanka
Groves will hopefully get his rematch and finish the job which he was about to do last night

Well. . .I would have fancied froch to stop him at some point after that, but the stoppage was totally ridiculous. I actually agree with what amir khan said on the sky broadcast, that Howard Foster seemed to favour froch all the way through. Numerous times he warned both fighters when he should have been docking points from Carl.
Real shame for Groves in one sense, but in another its given him far more fame in the casual fan's eyes than if he had been stopped legitimately 20 seconds later. I dont think the loss will do him any harm at all in the long run, especially coming the way it did.
I doubt he'll get a rematch

no one can say what would have happened if the ref did not stop the fight. Unless the rules did not allow it, the ref could have gave groves an 8 count. I felt groves was up by 4 points at the time of the stoppage. I also did not think groves was hurt enough to warrant a stoppage.
now had froch loss, a lot of people would have loss a lot a future money. there would be no interest in a froch-kessler 3, no interest in a ward fight. if groves wins there would be no ward fight or a fight against any big name. a froch win generates big name fights with a lot of behind the scenes folks standing to make a ton of money.
I really do not feel that froch would have won the fight had it continued unless they stole it from groves on the score cards. groves was having his way with froch.

Carl Froch proved he's barely at the level of (as he said) a domestic-level fighter. He should fight Degale next.
