Any fight between these two depends on whether the referee lets Hatton work.

There was one round, I think it was Round 5 where Cortez stayed out of it. Most of the round was spent with Floyd on the ropes. I expect the whole fight to have looked like that with another ref.

but it was floyd doing all the holding because he couldn't deal with the pressure. well he dealt with it by cheating and cortez said good job floyd. i love you.

What difference would that make? Floyd weights as much as an average jr welter even if he fights at welter. The only difference of it taking place at 147 instead of 140 is that the fighters wouldn't have to drain themselves to make weight. It probably even helped Hatton more than Mayweather because Hatton blows up like crazy between fights.

Same result. Hatton gets knocked out at 140lbs and would've lost everything with it. No 140lbs title to run back to and no built in excuses for losing. Regardless of which ref, in the US, Hatton was never going to get away with the "hug n hit" style he grew accustomed to (didn't do it so much against lesser opponents). The crying by his diehards will never cease.

Well that isn't true, Steve Smoger would have let them fight but he would never have got the nod. Cortez was sent in there for a reason but even with him manipulating events, I don't think Floyd stops Hatton at 140. Ricky just wasn't a 147lber and never looked comfortable fighting there.
