Much as I think Cotto would have a better chance against a potentially hobbled Martinez, I'd rather he fought Alvarez just to back Martinez into a corner within his division.

This is not about Cotto. This is about GBP's perceived cash cow Alvarez. Cotto is a free agent. He is not beholden to anybody. Schaefer wants the fight now before Alvarez's ass gets punked by a high risk, low reward fighter.

Who do you think Alvarez can fight in GBP's stable that could match the earning potential in a Cotto fight? GBP is desperate for this fight.
