Actually, it was Joe Cortez who made Marquez. Had he stopped the first fight after the third knockdown like 99% of all refs, Marquez would be an HBO after dark fighter and nothing more. JMM owes his legacy to Cortez.

It's just that...Marquez is a good fighter...but just that imo. He's rated highly because what he's done as a mexican not a fighter. Sure you can't take away pac or him being mexican but most his regards are just that.... he KOd pac in their 4th fight... hes 4 division MEXICAN champ, which holds more weight than anyone else for some reason...imo he's a good fighter, but an average WW who had a lot of time learning and studying pac, he got beat rather clearly by bradley and treated like an amateur with floyd... also lost one to pac at ww....his record isn't pretty. He's overrated a lot on here and I'm not sure why....he's the anti pac/floyd. They've won fights at 147+ and people hate on them for it...Marquez beats pac at 147 and hes all of a sudden amazing?
