What wins does Vitali have that are better than Calzaghe's?

The fact that vitali, the second best heavyweight across two eras (end of Lewis era, wlad era) could go through his career without too many notable misses, (Haye, Rahman 2004, valuev?) could have a worse resume than a beltholder who was protected for the majority of his career. Calzaghe has a couple of very good wins that get underrated (Reid, lacy, Kessler, bika, Hopkins) but missed a massive number of threats from in and around his weightclass. Hopkins, Taylor and pavlik at middleweight. ottke (no seriously) at supermiddle. Jones jr, johnson, tarver, Dawson, at light heavy (hell even a domestic scrap with Clinton woods). This is a sad indication of the lack of depth at heavyweight, that there is barely enough good challenges for the champion, that the contenders get left scraps to fight.
Vitali is clearly the best heavyweight of this generation.

He only relinquished the ring belt on retirement.

It's just like any other belt, means nothing anymore. Hasn't for a long time. Lineage is far more important, and Vitali never really had the universal HW lineage. Vitali is one of my favourite fighters too

The only wins worth a crap were old eubank, one dimensional lacy, prime kess, old hopkins and roy jones' ghost. Vitali beat the #2 guy in the division twice and gave the lineal undisputed champ the fight of his life alll while running up a 15-2 title fight record in boxings most storied division. Calzaghe fought too long against no hopers in his back yard in a bastard division.

Weve been over this a million times, he was the lineal champ after lewis retired and he beat sanders.

Who were these #2 rated guys he beat that weren't one dimensional like you claim Lacy to be? Sam "my defense is my face" Peter?

Vitali fought Peter, Gomez, Johnson, Sosnowski, Briggs and Chisora in Germany. Are these what you would call hopers?

He didn't rack up 15-2 title fight. It is 12-1. The WBO was not counted as a genuine belt at the time. Sort of like the IBO of this day and age.

I think it's funny that you discredit Calzaghe's wins over the likes of Lacy and Hopkins who were both champions at the time they fought, one of which went on to become champion again. But at the same time you build up the likes of Sam Peter who had already been pummeled by Wlad and dropped three times vs McCline and went life and death with a former middleweight.

I think everyone else can make up their minds on this one.

Vitali has a decent resume everything considered. He sure did more than Calzaghe in his career, and their careers are of similar longevity.

Calzaghe's resume is pretty average. His Eubank and Lacy wins are OK, Kessler is his career best win, and Kessler wasn't in the boxing class of Jones and Hopkins (prime for prime perspective), obviously. The rest of his resume is nothing special. Hardly even HOF material.

So I'd say they're pretty even, if you really want the comparison.

I would need to give Calzaghe an edge in this one.
