    Joe Calzaghe vs Vitali Klitschko:Resumes

    Who has the better Resume?

I think it's fairly close but Calzaghes win over Hopkins was kind of a simmilar situation to Vitali vs Lewis apart from Calzaghe actually won

Also Calzaghes win over prime Kessler is probably better than any of Vitalis wins

I voted Calzaghe and in my opinion it is quite clear. I know Joe gets a lot of schtick for his seemingly lackluster competition through much of his reign but he fought a tonne of solid fighters and rounded his career off with wins against Kessler, Bika, Lacy, Hopkins and Jones.

Kessler and Bika are still going strong today and have gone on to becomes the best wins (with Froch included) on young Ward's resume, who is the reigning kingpin of the division. That says a hell of a lot about Calzaghe, who beat them both quite convincingly.

Hopkins, well what can be said that hasn't already been said, he has since gone on to beat the lineal middleweight champion of the world in Pavlik and then one of the better light-heavyweights of the last 5 years in Jean Pascal. The more Hopkins fights, the better Calzaghe's win over him looks.

Calzaghe but Vitali is the more dominant champ.

Just looking at the wins and the losses (of Vitali) it's quite clear that Calzaghe has a better resume. Neither are great, but looking at the top wins of each guy, Calzaghe's wins over Kessler and Hopkins, Bika and Lacy I think are better than anything Vitali has on his resume.

This is especially considering 3 of those 4 went on to become world champions again and were in their fighting prime when Calzaghe fought them. 2 out of 4 were undefeated champions. Vitali really hasn't got the marquee wins that Calzaghe has got in Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins. He's got the Sanders win, which I guess was a good win on paper - in reality though, Sanders wasn't fit to defend anything at that point - no fault of Vitali's though.

Vitali does have some good wins in Arreola, Peter and Gomez - none of which were really thought to be a threat to him.

The quality of Vitali's resume has been discussed at length multiple times to a tiresome extent, and there's just no running away from the fact that he's only beaten 6 top 10 contenders in his career. It's just not very strong.

Calzaghe on the other hand beat 11 I believe and went through a career being undefeated and more or less fought everyone that was anyone in his time, bar a couple.

          So Calzaghe.

After thinking about this I would say now Calzaghe. But this is an indication of the weakness of the heavyeight division rather than the brilliance of calzaghes career. The fact that vitali, the second best heavyweight across two eras (end of Lewis era, wlad era) could go through his career without too many notable misses, (Haye, Rahman 2004, valuev?) could have a worse resume than a beltholder who was protected for the majority of his career. Calzaghe has a couple of very good wins that get underrated (Reid, lacy, Kessler, bika, Hopkins) but missed a massive number of threats from in and around his weightclass. Hopkins, Taylor and pavlik at middleweight. ottke (no seriously) at supermiddle. Jones jr, johnson, tarver, Dawson, at light heavy (hell even a domestic scrap with Clinton woods). This is a sad indication of the lack of depth at heavyweight, that there is barely enough good challenges for the champion, that the contenders get left scraps to fight.

Vitali. Not by a lot but calzaghe dared to take chances way, way to late and retired too early.
