    • The thread starter is getting a lot of crap for this, but in a way he's right:

A lot of people on this site were acting like Matthysse was this unbeatable, destructive force of nature that would split the Earth in half with his right hand, who's chin would survive a meteor strike, who can swallow an H-Bomb whole and laugh after the explosion inside of his stomach was muffled by his badness.

Second, for those saying he lost because of the eye swelling, if he was the ultimate badass people thought he was, he would have fought through it and won.

Matthysse is a really good fighter who has a bright future, but some just got too carried away and I believe that's what the thread starter was referring to.

...and by calling him a hype job the ts(and everyone else who called him a hypejob) was being just as ridiculous as anyone who thought he was king kong. Boxing fans whether casual, hardcore or gay ass hipster style(well ok, probably not that lot) get excited by destructive punchers and always have done. He's no hype, he's a tremendous fighter.

Having seen the condition of the eye the during the fight I had assumed it had come from a solid, well-placed Garci shot, but it turned out to not really be the case. It changed the course of the bout. That happens in boxing, but it's left the door open for a rematch as many had Matthysse up until that point.

Indeed, even without the eye you could argue a rematch since the fight was close enough that the questionable knockdown was enough to swing it on 2 of the 3 cards.
But that eye got fractured. I think it might be the same injury as Margarito. If Matthysse has to undergo surgery for it, his career might be over. If a rematch happens, Garcia will just target that eye again! Bad news.

          • What the hell is the point of this thread? Lucas did what he always does. Swift just beat him in a competitive fight. Good for Danny. Matthysse is still one of my favs, danny just went to another level.

A tremendous fighter has more than one way to win a fight. Matts has tremendous power, but his skillset needs to be developed more. He went in the hevy favorite and was reduced to a wild swinging, one dimensional fighter.

Matts is above average thats for sure. He showed a strong chin and guts to keep fighting. But I think the danny and zab fights show he isn't an upper echelon fighter. He does have upper echelon power.

Its unfair to call him a hype job-but its also unfair to make him out to be one of the truly elite.

**** me..Talk about splitting hairs! No, he is a tremendous fighter and does have more than one way to win a fight, power just happens to be his strongest attribute. The fight with Garcia was a good fight, one that was in the balance until he sustained the injury. That can happen to any fighter, and the Zab fight? Poor example as Lucas should have had his hand raised afterwards. He is most definitely in the top echelon in his weight class and will most likely trouble a lot of the top ten at WW.

It also makes me laugh that people suggest he should have just shook off his broken orbital bone. Really???? Anybody who can fight through a busted jaw, cheek, eye socket or whatever has space hopper sized bollocks IMO.

I suspect your just disagreeing because of being a sore flom who has to disagree with me whatever I say. You're pissing against the wrong tree here schnuffty.

                  • While Lucas isn't a hype job per se, he was completely over hyped. There's simply no denying that. People crowned him the best jww without him fighting danny, claimed danny was scared of him, some even thought he was legit p4p and favored him over Floyd. This site was crazy on Lucas juice. Now everykne wants to act like it didn't happen. Bahahahaha

His lack of an ability to win another way is what led to him being open to get the eye hurt. I'm not suggesting he shake off an orbital bone gong. I am saying he kept swinging wildly trying to land the ko punch and left himself open, hence he got the eye hurt. I agree with you that he showed guts.

why are you even bringing in floyd at all. geez dude grow up.

This fight showed who the tremendous fighter was. Matts isn't it. He may be able to KTFO of any other JWW, but he hasn't proven to me he can beat highly skilled boxers-the devon win notwithstanding.
