I don't know why the eye was an excuse.

Lucas was supposed to brutally knock out Garcia in 5 rounds or less wasn't he?

      come on guyss
Mattyhsee is exactly what he was going in, a bull strong fighter with wrecking balls for fists and a solid beard. He got some skills but he's no Joe Louis.
The eye injury played a big part in the result i feel, though that eye didn't just blown up on its own account - Danny made it. Id actually be up for an immediate rematch because it was a good fight and i think if that eye injury hadnt have occured it would have been even better
But i think we learned more about Danny Garcia than Lucas, he has a top chin, far faster hands than I had given him credit for and he's a smart fighter in there.

Yes, he beat Lucas. I acknowledge that, and I give Danny huge props.

But Ill say it again, if it weren't for the eye, the fight could have been much different. Would you agree or not, and just answer the question, don't be a smartass.
Right... Because before his eye swelled up he was giving Danny a Beating right...

Also it took some mean punching on Danny's part to (fracture) Mattysse's orbital bone. What are they gonna (blame) that on??

Can anyone explain how Matthysse is a hypejob? Hypejob's are fighters who get found out the first time they step up in class. Lucas has fought and beaten some damn good fighters and furthermore, will probably be around at world level for a few years yet. Thats a hypejob? Wow, some of you silly ****s must hate the sport.

Matthysse may well have won had it not been for the eye, but he didnt. This is boxing, a sport where you punch others in the face in the pursuit of victory, so if you break your opponents face and go on to win because of it, isnt that surely the idea? Garcia gets full credit for that.

It was a damn good fight between two very good fighters, both of whom emerge with a lot of credit....if nothing else, than for not avoiding each other at a stage in their careers where they could have taken easier fights whilst trying to 'build the fight' to make it bigger down the road. Hypejob? What a load of soggy piss!

Malignaggi actually thought it missed on commentary ringside. I think it was a punch (of sorts) and it obviously did land to some degree, but it was a fortunate break for Garcia and an unfortunate one for Matthysse. Luck played its part as it so often does in sport.

Having seen the condition of the eye the during the fight I had assumed it had come from a solid, well-placed Garci shot, but it turned out to not really be the case. It changed the course of the bout. That happens in boxing, but it's left the door open for a rematch as many had Matthysse up until that point.

Indeed, even without the eye you could argue a rematch since the fight was close enough that the questionable knockdown was enough to swing it on 2 of the 3 cards.

This post is superb. I had no idea you could put together suck knowledgeable work. I was expecting something more along the lines of "Garcia is a ******" and the refs were bumsniffs. Good job, really surprising.

The swollen eye was a result of a very short, quick left hook on the inside. Twas not a thumb.
