Victor Ortiz showed more in four rounds than Canelo & Guererro

I guess I'm the only one who thought Canelo did better then anyone since DLH. I thought he landed some good shots in each rd. Floyd edged out most rds, and they were mostly close rds.
Never at any point in that fight was Floyd in complete control like he had been in all his other fights.Comment

No he didn't, lmao. Ortiz did worse than those guys.Truth be told Ortiz did a lot better than those two. I mean Canelo did have the hand speed but his feet were too slow and Guerrero had no foot or hand speed. Guerrero only had the southpaw stance going for him. Ortiz came in with the right mentality for that fight. He started off at the center of the ring but he did a hell of a lot better job at cutting off the ring than Guerrero or Canelo. In the fourth round Ortiz put combinations together and started landing a few. We knew that Ortiz wasn't going to win a boxing match against Floyd and he switched his tactics against the ropes and every time Floyd would get away Ortiz wouldn't be turned around so quickly like Mayweather did to Guerrero and Canelo. Ortiz had the size weighing 164 on fight night, southpaw stance, the foot speed, and power to make it more competitive for Floyd. We also know that unlike Canelo Ortiz would have had the stamina to keep the punch volume up as well. It's too bad Ortiz lost his mind.Comment

Great post. I agree completely. Even Canelo knows that to beat Floyd you have to pressure at times, but like you said, Canelo knew he didn't have the stamina to maintain such a strategy. Also its not in Canelo's mental makeup to take punches to land punches. He shouldv'e utilized his weight advantage more and traded counter rights for hooks to Floyd's liver. I'm not saying to get predictable with it or do non-stop, but its gotta be part of the gameplan.Ortiz was not incredibly effective against Floyd and in the end, he paid dearly for his lack of focus, but he was able to sustain some semblance of an attack because he had stamina.
Unlike Canelo, Ortiz is well-conditioned. He's actually completed triathlons, so he not only had a size advantage, he had the cardiovascular base to actually try to apply it. Additionally, you can't undervalue the fact that when Ortiz entered the ring against Floyd, he didn't have the mental burden of knowing that he'd tire mid-fight.
As I pointed out repeatedly before September 14, Canelo has been plagued by poor stamina (this wasn't something that just emerged in the Trout fight) and if you watch Mayweather-Canelo again, you'll see the usual signs of Canelo's poor conditioning. So it's no surprise that he was unable to sustain any meaningful effort.Comment

Canelo is a better boxer than Ortiz, but Ortiz is a better athlete. Floyd had a bit of trouble adjusting to Ortiz's explosive rhythm. Canelo gave Floyd very little openings, but Floyd is just that good at finding ways to catch you.Comment

I agree he did go on cruise control after 4 against Peterson but if you remember the 2nd time he dropped him the ref gave Peterson a standing 8 count he shouldn't have done that Ortiz was about to stop him ref bailed him out.
that headbutt against Mayweather was Ortiz trying to be something he is not and then went overboard with the apologizing probably his corner told him to get dirty with Floyd because he was getting hit with elbowsComment
