now you show something where JMM made the CW request. You can't use some kind of self fullfilling logic to prove that.
What? In both of those cases the bigger guy didn't request the CW, they offered. and both clearly wanted a higher limit, Floyd coming over and paying, and Dawson requesting 171 and clearly being weight affected.

It's not self fulfilling logic, it's plain old logic. The bigger guy will never request to put himself at a disadvantage, and to make things easier for the other guy. They'd rather not budge. again, they may offer it but that's not the same at all.

    • Schafer: "Only me and Al Haymon know the details". Yeah, right, so Floyd was planning to fight himself????? Schafer said regarding Canelo's team no fighter, no trainer, no manager, no one was present during the negotiations. Then who the *** were they negotiating with??????? Oh, thats right, he and Al Haymon.....what a load of maggot infested horse sht.

      • The catchweight is a bit of a red herring. I doubt the Mayweather team are under any illusions that there isn't a strong possibility that they will face a Canelo around 170 on fight night because Canelo failed (deliberately or otherwise) to make weight.

I haven't seen the article where Schafer states that team Mayweather was negotiating with team Canelo without any of Canelo's reps, but if that is true, may I suggest that perhaps a representative from Golden Boy was there? Very possible.

Canelo’s Trainer: Mayweather wants the fight to take place at the welterweight limit of 147-pounds

Posted on May 11, 2013 by admin

By Miguel Rivera; According to Jose “Chepo” Reynoso, trainer of WBC/WBA 154-pound champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-0-1, 30KOs), there is a weight issue that has to be worked out in order to fight WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) on September 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Chepo claims that Mayweather wants the fight to take place at the welterweight limit of 147-pounds. Canelo wants to fight at the junior middleweight limit. Chepo says there is “0″ chance of the bout take place at 147.

“Floyd wants every advantage on his side. Among one of the things that is often being stressed is that he wants Canelo at a lower weight. Why would I make my boy sacrifice so much? We proposed an intermediate weight for things to be level for both [fighters], but he refused. Yes we want to fight, but that does not mean [Mayweather] will get everything [he wants],” Chepo said to Erika Montoya.

The weight was an obvious concern when this fight was first discussed. Mayweather walks around close to the welterweight limit, while Canelo weighs over 170-pounds on the night of his fights. Mayweather hold the WBA’s “super title” at 154, but he defeated Miguel Cotto, a small junior welterweight, to capture that title.
Re-read the part in bold that you posted. I think many people should read this article. Maybe every person will interpret the meaning of that quote differently, but how I take it is that Floyd originally wanted the fight to take place at the welterweight division (and perhaps put his welterweight belt on the line?).. Canelo's team said no.. Then proposed that they meet in the middle, which ultimately, is EXACTLY the weight that they're fighting at 152. Matter of fact, it's closer to Canelo's traditional weight of 154 than Floyd's traditional weight of 147, so they more than met in the middle. WTF are people complaining about?

Was Floyd a hypocrite about his past opinions of CWs? Sure. But let's not act like he said "catchweight or I'm not fighting Canelo." A intermediate weight was OFFERED by Team Canelo, and accepted by Team Mayweather. It's a weight that BOTH fighters are ok with, both agreed to, and the fight is happening. Mayweather's fighting a guy who's going to have close to a TWENTY POUND WEIGHT ADVANTAGE come fight-night.. What the hell do you guys want!? lol some people will just never be happy, nor give any credit when credit's due. They simply can't put their bias aside and personal feelings. OP, I'm not speaking directly towards you, but just a lot of people in general.

I, personally, do not think this CW is as big of a deal as many here are making it out to be. 2 lbs for a fighter who will have a 20 lb weight advantage isn't asking much, especially when it wasn't even a demand, and it was offered. Could Mayweather have denied the offer and instead fought Canelo at 154? Sure. That would've been awesome and probably would've put to sleep many of the naysayers...MAYBE..

The fact of the matter is there are a myriad of elements that could've prevented this fight: egos, management, demands, networks, promotions, money, clauses, CWs, belts, etc.. However, the fact that both of these fighters didn't let ANY of those factors affect the chance of this fight materializing speaks volumes of EACH fighter, respectively IMO.. They're happy...THEY'RE ready.. We all should be as well!

Well if the guy is saying 147, what else can they do but try to bridge the gap somehow.

WTF is Floyd insisting on 147 for, then a week earlier he was saying "don't strip me of my SWW belt, I wanna defend after Guerrero". Was he gonna defend it at 147 lol?

Here is the article where Schafer said no one else was present which is one of the top 10 most profoundly ****** things I have ever heard in Boxing, next to a half a dozen Bob Arum quotes! I dont think even he thinks people would believe that but moreso it looks like he was caught in a lie in the interview and tried to worm out of it which he could not.http://www.boxingscene.com/schaefer-...details--65648

And the fact that Mayweather wanted the fight at 147/150 and then settled on 152 goes against his statement "I want a fighter to be at his natural, comfortable weight. I don't do Catchweights." But we know he is a hypocrite, even some of his fans showed dignity and said they don't agree with Floyd. But some fans sank with that ship and went down in embarrasing flames when they were the ones for 3 years crying and yapping about Pac vs Cotto and then tried to justify Mayweather doing the same thing. And to think all Floyd had to do was demand that Canelo not walk in the ring over 160/162. Weigh Canelo again 2 hours before the fight, thats all. No hypocrisy. Sure he would have a lot of haters but there are many that would have been BIG TIME impressed if Floyd had only put a walk-in-ring weight limitation. He should have done that or at least a same-day. We need to get back to same-day weigh ins anyway.
