Over the hill? Johnston was the big favorite going into the fight.
Well, that's not always how things work. The money fight was the Calzaghe fight, simple as that. Kessler is far too natural at 168 to try and go up. At least around that time. If anything, he could have gone down to face some of the guys at 160 - he's always said he could make 160.

Sure, Johnston was over the hill - meaning past his prime. Not in the sense that he was gone or anything, he was the #1 lightweight for sure. but he was getting older and people recognized that BEFORE the fight which is very important to point out.

I'm pretty sure it was Castillo's first big test, so we didn't really know how good he was at the time, and we didn't before years later really. But that was why Johnston was the fav.

Johnston was P4P rated. When did Kessler ever beat anyone in the P4P ratings? Johnston deserved it too, he was making everyone look like fools.

Castillo has a real chance to get into the hall of fame. Kessler does not.

its cool, we all make mistakes,,,
I think corrales is overrated,, he always had a huge heart, and guts and was exciting to watch,, but most of his power came from the fact that he was huge for the classes he competed in,,, he cut huge amount of weight but when faced with a guy the same size like floyd, castillo, clottey,,, corrales wasnt that dominant,,,

casamoyer was a super slick and dirty fighter,, in his prime he would cause anyone problems,, i think he is one of the most underrated technicians of the past 25 years or so

Castillo was a legit top level fighter,,, he should be a HOFer and was the best lightweight of the early 00s, and gave a prime floyd all he could handle,, very good fighter

Well Kessler beat Carl Froch who's on most people's p4p list, for once.

I don't remember Castillo ever being partularly prominent on anyone's p4p lists.

But it doesn't always work like that. Kessler beat everyone aside from Calzaghe in his era. That's pretty much all you can ask of him. He then goes on to beat a potential hall of famer, losing to a potential ATG in between,

Johnston was on the P4P list when Castillo beat him. Froch wasn't anywhere near a P4P list when Kessler beat him.

Castillo made it when he beat Casamayor as well.

Maybe he was there briefly, but I dont remember him having a long stint at the list. But it was a time of many great fighters prime. Mosley, Trinidad, Jones jr, Lewis, Hamed, Mayweather, Morales, Hopkins to name a few. it was def a hard top 10 to crack.

It doesn't really matter much to me where Carl Froch was at the p4p list at the time. He was an undefeated champion, coming off some very very good wins. And the fact that he's become a champion again after Kessler beat him just adds to the value of the win imo.

I think Johnston was on the outskirts of top 10 to be honest.

it was wrong for me to add that last line about race, because it has enabled you to think you can duck the actual question of the post that is proving beyond you to answer so far.
