Even if they were the exact same age Mares will get the better opportunities going forward while Rigondeaux will be hoping someone calls his name~
If Mares could have generated over 1 million in his first 12 fights and be a unified world champion I'm sure he would jump on that. In this sport you need to get your cash now because there is no telling what will happen down the road.

Say Mares loses to Russell or has injury issues. His earning power takes a hit.

Sure, and there are no sure things in boxing but the future of Mares is very bright much brighter than Rigondeaux's.

Here I will lay it out for you Rigondeaux hit the lottery with that 750k, there was a turn of events that worked in his favor and he got paid way more than his actual worth. Like winning the lottery but that is not something that can be counted on for continued success.

So he can either get real or live on that 750k for the rest of his life.

Mares on the other hand is like a lawyer making 300 grand a year, sure he made less than the lottery winner in a one off scenario but he has things going for him that means he has some staying power in the earnings department and will likely come out ahead in the long run

I wonder if GBP can buyout his contract.

I love this fight, and I would love for Rigo to sign with Golden Boy.

That's kind of my point. Rigo doesn't have it bad at all. In fact he has it made. I don't even think he realizes how good he has it.

In 12 fights, he got the defining win of his career and his highest payday without barely being touched. Guys like Mares have to fight garbage men and taxi drivers in small towns while making pennies trying to make a name for themselves.

He can fight 3 mandatories a year for $150-$250K per year and be in real good shape.

The key in boxing is to hit the iron while its hot. Right now **** has cooled down and Rigo just needs to fight contenders since he can't go any higher. Once the iron gets hot again and another hypejob with a fanbase becomes relevant, strike again.

I wouldn't call it a lottery though. I'd take becoming a millionaire by sitting on my ass and eating potato chips over doing it by going through 8 week training camps and getting punched any day of the week.

Except Mares likely makes more than 150-250k~ so by this time next year Mares will likely be ahead of Rigondeaux in career earnings.

The tortoise and the hare, except in the case the hare is dying of cancer while the tortoise stopped by the side of the road to get some NOS installed.

Mares has his own future and big pay days in his hands as he is an A-side, Rigondeaux will always depend on others and is a b-side

That's because top rank feed their fighters but what does this have anything to do with what mares makes? Like I said when is rigo fighting and who is his opponent?? U would think after his last win he would get treated and promoted to be the next great one instead he doesn't even have a date on when he's fighting next, hmmm I wonder why..

That refers the the turn of events that got him that shot, it was a one in a million type of thing that got him that pay day, those opportunities are few and far between in boxing and even fewer at that light a weight class in the US.

He made the most of his lottery ticket, but he can't advance expecting that to be the norm.

I respect Rigondeaux skills but for the casual fans his style is not entertaining at all.

Bad move on part of Rigo by limiting his potential opponents. He should take any reasonable fight they give him.
