Roy isn't overrated. He would've been favored to defeat all of the fighters that many said he had ducked.
The only possible hindrance I see that may have prevented those fights from happening was HBO; Jones, Jr,'s unofficial promoter. Roy Jones had an exclusive contract deal with HBO for years, where they would cut out any middleman to work with him directly.
They even helped set up that dummy corporation Square Ring INC for him. So if they really wanted those fights to have happened then they would've happened because they had the deep pockets in terms of money for getting those fights done.Comment

Yes I believe so, thats the only guy I felt could beat a prime Roy, and maybe Nigel Benn.
Benn was just a tough as mofo, and very dirty fighter, He wouldn't back down. McLellan was one of the best boxer puncher I seen at 168.
B hop didn't go up to 168 and stayed at middleweight instead of fighting those guys. He milked the no name guys at 160 and made a ton of title defenses.Comment

What about domestic opponents like nunn, and liles and G-man,,, just saying...
I think Roy is a great fighter, but in terms of ATG he is greatly overrated,,,
him and floyd both suffer from the fact of big fights on each resume,,,
People talk more about the fights they didnt take, then the fights they did take,,,, which really hurts their legacys...
Nobody ever complains about ali, or SRL and the fights they took,,,,
Roy and floyd both should have taken some bigger fights,, great fighters, but resumes are very soft compared to other ATGsComment

HBO even said they regretted the roy contract because they thought he would take the big fights, but he didnt take any risks,,,Roy isn't overrated. He would've been favored to defeat all of the fighters that many said he had ducked.

there was too much talent in the 90's- domestic and foreign for roy not to land any big fights for about a decade,,,
Toney was roy's first big fight in nov of 94,,, then you had to wait til spring of 03 til roy fought another big fight,,,
in the meantime, roy didnt take a nunn, G-man, liles, benn, eubanks, collins fight,,, all would have been huge....
Now the fanboys will tell you he beat hill, griffin and mccallum but hill had already been beaten by michlewski, and mccallum was an ancient 40+ year old jr mid.. and those are considered roy's great wins,,, and they will also talk about fighting all the lhw champs,, but none of them were worth a crap, michlewski was the only one that matter in terms of legacy, but michlewski never wanted to leave germany so i dont blame jones for that,,,,
Roy was the biggest star of the 90's and he could have easily made fights with nunn, liles, etc,,,, but he chose vinny paz, lucas, frazier, brannon, byrd, etc,,, all b-level opponents,,,
How can the biggest star at those weight classes and be considered an ATG go a decade without landing a big fight,,, it was because he looked so good beating b-level opponents and with a guarnatee from hbo, roy never needed to take risks,,, and as soon as he did with tarver,, you saw roy was human and not superman....Comment

Roy isn't over rated, he had exceptional talent and skill. . . You can knock all the doors you want about ducking fights but there's probably more to it than that, Boxing is a lucrative business, the boxer's don't really get to call the shots, the promoters do, and for whatever reason **** doesn't work out sometimes.
But in the ring, for the most part he delivered some amazing boxing.Comment

Please elaborate,, I generally like your posts, and respect your opinion, so please shed some light on what you think..
SRL, Oscar, ALi all had promoters yet they all landed big fights over and over again,,,,Roy isn't over rated, he had exceptional talent and skill. . . Roy was usually a free agent and never really got tied down by one promoter,, Roy could have landed bigger fights from 95-02,,Comment
