Oscar was picking THE top p4p fighter to fight as a tune-up to a potential rematch with Floyd... Call it a "cherry-pick" as if Oscar was gonna roll with the sudden glory that came with beating Manny Pacquiao (at the time). It was just a tune-up... If anything he was doing Manny a favor, giving him more exposure... And nobody (at the time) would crucify Manny had he lost like expected, meanwhile Oscar stays busy and keeps the sport that he'd been carrying single-handed alive

I love how people accuse Oscar of cherry-picking, and yet still include it as one of those "big fights" that Oscar lost... Which one is it?

The weight wasn't Manny's fault at all Oscar went overboard with the weight loss and got his ass beat for it.

the simple answer is he screwed up his preparation. it may not have been his fault, no one knows precisely what happened behind the scenes. but the plan implemented to make weight was a huge screw up and left him a fatigued and drained fighter.

not pac's fault though, which is why i don't get the hate on pac for this fight. can you blame pac for taking an oscar fight? can you blame pac for how his opponent turns up? of course not, pac did what he had to do, and did it very well.

But you forget a few things:

          1. Oscar hand picked Pac as he saw him as easy pickings and an opportunity to become a P4P fighter again.
          2. Oscar was heavily favoured to win that fight.
          3. Pac climbed 2 weight divisions to fight DLH at 147.

Yes Oscar wasn't in his prime but Pac does deserve some kind of credit.

I give Manny credit too but not for the reason you stated. Oscar went into that fight a huge favourite, he was meant to destroy little Manny, boxing "experts" and fans alike kept saying Manny was in it for the payday. Huge retrospective change in opinions with almost everyone saying "I knoew Manny was going to win" **** off, no one did. :****you:

My answer is Oscar's ego was writing a check his a$$ couldn't cash and Manny gave him a whooping for it. Cherry pick gone horribly wrong.

He had been so light for so long that he was unable to put any weight back on. His body had sort of shut down. If he had made the weight in the same way that he did when he was fighting as a welterweight for years I think he would have been fine and he would have come into the ring weighing at least 155 lbs.
This he thought he was being clever. He basically went on a long ass diet cutting his calories for months. He should have dieted to a higher weight maybe 155 and just dehydrated himself and then rehydrated himself for the weigh in. When you cut calories over a long stretch of time your training performance will be imparied, your hormones will be out of whack and you just won't have the same energy.

Nice try but you are then in denial if you believe what you wrote. Diego was certainly weight drained in that fight.

Funny how you can say Oscar was but Diego wasn't even though there are many articles including quotes from Diego himself and even his conditioning coach years later ......

                      1. Oscar- Manny wasnt a catchweight

                      2. Oscar was going down in weight regardless if he fought manny, it could have been hatton, floyd rematch, etc

                      3. Oscar drained himself too much,, he should have come in at 147 not 145,,,

                      4. Oscar was trying to relive his past greatness of being the bigger guy, destroying lightweights,, like he did leija, ruelas, chavez, genaro, etc.... In those fights, oscar looked and fought like a monster,,, he was trying to relive that,,, It backfired,,,,

                      5. MAnny didnt force oscar to do anything,, this was all oscar's fault,, tried to pick on a little guy and it backfired....
