    Maidana's team gave this excuse:

“We told Golden Boy that we didn’t want the fight. We want a tuneup. Is that a tuneup? All big name fighters take tune ups. And when they do tuneups, do they do them against a 17-0 opponent with 16 knockouts and a super welterweight?” asked Contursi as he referred to the 5’11 Thurman."

This was like 3 weeks before the fight after they had already agreed to fight him. Why agree to fight a guy and then pull out? Probably watch videos of him

Thurman KOs Chaves and all of a sudden everyone is ducking him?
The guy should calm down a bit. If Chaves broke his nose Maidana breaks his neck.
Right now, Maidana should be fighting Broner. Thurman should think about defending the Interim title he won 4 days ago instead of calling out elite boxers. Do American boxers get paid extra for being loud mouth punks or something. How about STFU for a minute and stick to boxing? Defend the title a couple times, then see where you go from there.

Miadana ducked him more then a year ago

Thurman's interim title states he has to fight Broner next, so thats what should happen, right? Maidana is fringe contender, he is nowhere near elite.

I do think it was unprofessional move for Maidana's team to pullout after agreeing to the fight, but I don't think it's quite a duck. I think fighters should be in similar positions (or close) in their careers before the word duck could be used. Maidana was at much higher point in his career in comparison Thurman. And Maidana not having a name is bull****. His Ortiz and Khan fights were high profile fight of the years. Thurman was indeed a nobody. Since when can you duck a nobody?

Guys with high KO ratios makes a terrible tuneup. Doesn't matter how unknown the fighter is. Look what happened to Jorge Linares fighting an unknown dude with an 86% KO rate right after his loss to Demarco. And the matchmaker Eric Gomez coming up with a guy managed by Al Haymon after requesting a tuneup should make you especially su****ious. Maidana's team should have watched tape before accepting, but I don't think pulling out qualifies as a duck. Thurman is in a better position to be screaming duck now, but I wouldn't say Maidana is ducking untill he blatantly turns down Thurman for someone worst.

Stop saying he didn't duck him, he cleared did...his teams own quote basically flat out states it.

He fought Karass instead, who despite what happened lately, at that point was as much a nobody but coming into the fight like 2-6, all against unranked opposition

Turning down a fight after agreeing because you're scared of his power and think you will lose sounds like a duck to me. Just because he admitted being scared of his power doesnt mean he isnt ducking, he simply admitted it. Im not sure how that you can agree he isnt ducking after reading that quote, it literally states they dont want the fight because he's too powerful
