You still haven't answered my question. What good opponent should Gamboa have realistically fought at 126 at the time?

Franco is a former olympian who was undefeated in the pros until his last fight which was a controversial decision in Argentina! We all know no one gets a decision there!! Even Adrian Broners handlers avoided Franco!! Although he wasn't the best in Cuba and lost to gamboa and rigo at least you could say he's faced tougher opponents in Cuba than what Fortuna could possibly ever bring!!!

Just look at the people calling Gamaboa out

        Miguel Angel Garcia
        Terrence Crawford
        Miguel Vazquez
        Abner Mares
        Javier Fortuna
        Roman Martinez

Lets see who Gamboa goes after

I saw the Munoz fight. Franco was robbed. Luis is a good, solid opponent for the young, talented Fortuna. I wouldn't go putting money on Franco; but, then again, I wouldn't bet against him. I'll go as far as to say that if Javier manages to beat Luis clearly, he's not just another overhyped product. We'll see this Friday.

Gamboa is too small for 135. Crawford and Vazquez are both lightweights.

I would love to see Yuri fight Mikey at 130, 'cause Gamboa's not coming back down as low as 126 again. This counts Mares out. Fortuna looks good, but if Yuri spanks his ass people will say he beat an untested kid. I've always said Martinez would make a good fight for Gamboa. In a perfect world, Yuri fights "Rocky" at 130 and meets Garcia for a showdown at 130.

I agree with you! It's a tough bet and one I wouldn't make either way!! If Fortuna wins and wins big than yea he deserves all the credit on the other hand Franco is not an easy pit stop and Fortuna shouldn't be looking passed him...I can't wait till Friday it's exciting to see if a fellow cuban can answer the bell as an under dog!!!

That would be the dream scenario where Gamboa fights Rocky first and then Mickey for a super fight!! Gamboa should steer away from 135 lbs and focus on being the undisputed king at 130!!!

Shows you the Bull**** Politics In Boxing...Because Fortuna is not with Top Rank or GBP he is not on Showtime or HBO which is a ***IN SHAME! If it was about "EXCITING STYLES" and Knock Outs then why in the *** is Fortuna still fighting on ESPN? Fortuna vs Luis Franco is a damn good match up!

Franco likes to mix it up. That's the concern. But if Luis can manage to avoid a big shot and take the fight into the later rounds, Fortuna might take his first loss. I'd be happy to see Franco get some exposure on FNF.

Looks like this "dream scenario" might be taking shape, according to a new article here. Martinez might pull out of the Garcia fight and opt for Gamboa instead. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

He kinda dropped his pants the one time he got good exposure. I told my buddies this guy is dynamite and would be blasting out the Irishman quick, then we got that dud. But he's young, he will be getting opportunities if he keeps looking good. DiBella gets HBO dates, and can also work with SHO in theory
