Comments Thread For: Fortuna: I Want Gamboa, I Can Knock Him Out!

Javier Fortuna faces the toughest test of his career Friday when he takes on 2004 Cuban Olympian Luis Franco at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla.

Fighters usually toe the party line when asked whom they want to fight next, usually saying "I'm not looking past my opponent." But not Fortuna

Fortuna (22-0, 16 KOs) told BoxingScene that after he's done with Franco (11-1, 7 KOs) on ESPN's "Friday Night Fights," he would like to fight another Cuban Olympian in his next bout.

"I want (Yuriorkis) Gamboa," Fortuna said, "and I know can knock him out."

BoxingScene has been advised that discussions for the fight have taken place, and that Gamboa's promoter, 50 Cent, is very interested.

I get the feeling Fortuna is gonna miss weight, remember I said this, hopefully I'm wrong. It's the fact that he's grown.

"Knock him out and send him back to Cuba"

One thing for sure is Fortuna can fight, but he doesn't appear to have the dedication required to be in the elite class with the weight issues ect.. He's KO'ed some other decent prospects too and I don't think Gamboa will be chomping and the bits to go down to 130 and fight him at this point in his career. Too much risk not enough reward....

Gamboa's name keeps popping up. Do these guys think he's an easy mark?

He's in a pretty vulnerable position right now. For all his skill/talent/amateur pedigree, he didn't look great in his last fight and is short for his division. A fighter with power/speed/length will probably give him issues. The thing that Gamboa could capitalize on is Fortuna's recklessness. I think it'll take a tough challenge to bring out the best in Gamboa.

These losers can keep dreaming. No I e beats Gamboa at 130 or135. Reasons why Adrian Duckner went and fought Paula Non-G. Mikey Garcia would get ****ed up too.
