I know that article but the fight is almost certainly not happening next. We've been hearing this circle jerk from Gamboa for almost 2 years now. If it doesnt, he should have no problem facing Fortuna next, correct?
He should but that should most deff be plan B not A i want to see that Mares fight over Fortuna any day, righT? And yes that is exactly what im saying i can tell you with 100% certainty he has never have any problems making weight and his excursion to 135 that started with Farenas was aimed towards getting one of those cans Broner said he was giving since he was going to "clean out" 135.

But he went and went up 2 classes to take out Paulie which pretty much left them without a plan after Farenas, Perez was supposed to be just another showcase but backfired (lets face it 50 cent the matchmaker? he is struckout every time) on top of that he doesn't have a real trainer and he looked like **** no plan or motivation reminded me of Silva in his last fight he was lucky he was in there with a scarecrow. And thats why i rather see Mares thats a guy that if he does the same **** hes going to loose and be kd a few times in the process Fortuna doesn't offer the same ive seen him, Gamboa could coast on this kid too, dont buy the hype kid is too young to be gassing mid fight.

Thus why I think this cat is so overrated. I know I will catch heat for stating what would be seemingly obvious to some but damn, he is under a second promotional banner and he still fighting like he's content to be contender status.

Now the man has skill/athleticism no doubt, but what good is any of this if we keep seeing the same type of performances, long lay offs, and less than stellar opposition?

I think he's is getting too much credit for things he has yet to accomplish.

By the way, this post is no way shape or form a flame to you.
Gamboa was begging for a fight with JuanMa, long before Lopez was busted up twice by Salido. Back then, JuanMa was considered one of the very top guys at 126. Yuri outclassed Ponce De Leon, who was considered a very solid fighter. He destroyed Jorge Solis, who was also considered a good fighter.

There just weren't that many decent boxers willing to fight Gamboa that Yuri hadn't already fought at 126. Then came the aborted match with Rios at 135 and the ensuing inactivity. Now Gamboa is trying to get his career back on track. Who do you realistically want Yuri to "challenge" himself with right now?

Franco is nothing to write home about, but I don't think Luis should be overlooked. If the fight goes deep, Fortuna might have some regrets.

He was at the time. Solis came down from 130 to challenge Gamboa. Besides JuanMa, who has since crash and burned, who was there to seriously challenge Yuri at 126 at that time? And please don't say John. A fight with Chris wasn't going to happen. People complain about fighters not "challenging" themselves, but they don't always consider all the factors involved.

Sure he was.. you consider Solis a fluke now because it's convenient.

Nope, I remember things vividly, the Solis fight was seen as a good fight going in, it was a good opponent.

Thank you. So do I. Whatever came afterwards came afterwards.

The fact is, Gamboa would've fought anyone at 126 at the time. Plenty of people thought JuanMa was the man to beat at featherweight and Yuri was publicly asking for a showdown. Remember Lopez climbing into the ring with Gamboa after a fight and giving his speech about how his promoter decided whom he fought?
