I would have to give the edge to Vitali. Floyd Patterson avoided Sonny Liston for a long time, before he and Cus Damato ran out of excuses and got KTFO twice. For the most part of Floyd's reign, a lot of people were speculating on his suspect chin and him avoiding Sonny, so he didn't fight the likes of Folley and Williams.

Not that Vitali ever fought the best either, but he racked up more defensed and never ducked anybody. He just left the best for his brother.

How is it different? ... well unlike the guys u mentioned Vit is not THE champ and NEVER has been. Lewis was THE champ and he beat vits. Then when lewis retired Wlad took over. WLAD is THE champ now. To put it in oldschool terms, Vit is in effect a contender who fought THE champ once and lost and has never fought THE new champ (wlad) since.

Wlad is the man in the heavyweights and has been for a long time now. he's the one with the real title, he's the one that fights the top contenders ... he fought haye ... he's fighting Povetkin ... Vits makes do with the likes of Charr and chisora and his nuthuggers say that makes him a dominant champ just like Holmes ... sheesh give me a break.

it would be like if some guy lost to an old fat Joe Louis and then was hanging around in marciano's reign never fighting marciano but beating up a on a whole load of guys ranked circa 10-30 and then had the gaul to call himself an atg who dominated during his era ... This whole debate is a joke tbh. Vits has been riding on his brother's coat tails for years.

This is the same vladimir that retired Lennox Lewis. The same vladimir that was winning the fight whenvthe ref stopped it and Lewis was done for in two rounds or less. He has a marciano type record. ATG. if not Lewis would wanted a rematch.Name the fighters that he ducked and you opinion will change.

He has missed fighting more good fighters than he has fought. And the difference between Vittles and Holmes and Tyson is the were at the top defending the heavyweight championship of the world. Holmes had 20 defenses as lineal champ, Tyson 14 I think. Vits has had zero and has never beaten the universally recognized best fighter in the division. It most certainly matters when you call an era average. Everybody in the 70's fought one another and the skill level was much higher overall. Today you have guys that won't fight other top fighters, lean on each other and suck wind after 6 rounds. Take the best contenders from the 70's and put them in today and all you would see in the ranking besides the Klits would be them. Not a single gravy train boy from today has shown the desire to fight tough fights and keep coming back for top challenges except for maybe Tony Thompson, who himself is no ATG.

he hasnt missed fighting anybody.you posted a list of 30 guys lol.so by that logic i guess vitali should have 80 something fights lol.you post guys like dimentrenko and chambers,failing to mention that chambers beat dimentrenko and wlad ko'd chambers.so explain how these are viable fight options lol

i seem to recall guys like foreman,and lyle sucking wind after a few rnds also lol.the skill level wasnt much higher lol.deal in facts,not bad opinions.ali was highly skilled,quarry,jimmy young,thats it.everybody else skill level was good to avg

ATG status should be for who you beat, not the potential if given the right opponent. Vitale quit on the stool against Byrd and Lewis sliced him up with his fists.
