Floyd purse is guranteed no matter if the PPV does 1 buy; he makes more the better PPV does. CBS banks 4 billion annually who owns Showtime the interest alone wipes out the supposed 12 million they may or may have not lost. Far all intent and purposes Floyd vs Canelo was always the plan for Sept Canelo even said that but he wanted it in writing.Comment

You have to factor in the documentary and the cbs documentary. They spent money but it seems they spent most of it reshaping floyds image as best possible and not so much promoting the fight.
Seeing as how sat nite primetime on cbs aint cheap and they gave him airtime at the final four.they definitely expected more than 1 million ppv buys.Comment

I completely agree. The guarantee is what end up costing them money, but it was obviously an educated gamble on Showtime's part. A short term loss of $10-$20 million is something they may very well make up for with the sales of this Mayweather/Alvarez boxing bonanza. It has all the ingredients to do very, very well in terms of money generated.
Even more interesting is the prospect of sales for Floyd's fights post-Canelo. I don't see anybody else out there that Mayweather can do astronomical numbers with like he'll do with Canelo. There are a lot of respectable/decent fights out there that could perform well enough on PPV, but I don't see anybody else out there for Floyd post-Canelo that will put up the kind of massive numbers needed in order to justify those guarantees.
If this contract with Mayweather is to be a success, I think Showtime is going to have to rely on stacking the rest of his undercards as well as they're doing with this Alvarez bout, because Floyd vs. Khan, Alexander, or whoever just won't sell that well as a stand-alone fight.Comment

The reason it took a little longer than usual to put this card together was that they had to do research on the numbers to see if Garcia and Matthysse could be an entity on it's own. They found out that they could make more on the undercard, and that is why they are on the undercard. Canelo Floyd was going to sell regardless. Haters will lie to you because that is what they do, lie. They will, though the card will be super expensive. They might even make up the money lost on Guerrero. but what then? You just used your trump card, 4 more super expensive fights to go. Showtime's gotta be hoping for a Floyd loss, or a very competitive fight vs Canelo that would make a rematch viableComment

I said it awhile depending on your agenda is who you will believe about these numbers. There is no proof either way if you want to believe Showtime/Floyd you will go with over 1 mil; if you hate Floyd you will go with 870k simple as thatComment

Exactly. As I said, if you don't know then you can't give fans some short order lie to help with your pathetic hate. Common sense always prevails.Comment

It doesn't work like that. If they had 12m to waste on fringe entertainment like boxing, they could have sunk it into their budget and eclipsed HBO long ago. 12m is massive, their entire budget for last year was 28m. Remember when HBO's budget was all messed up for the year for committing like 3m to Bradley and Alexander's next fight after that fiasco? But in any business losing 40% of you annual budget in one day is tragic.Floyd purse is guranteed no matter if the PPV does 1 buy; he makes more the better PPV does. CBS banks 4 billion annually who owns Showtime the interest alone wipes out the supposed 12 million they may or may have not lost. Heck no......Schaefer said it did well over a mill but I know better. If it did, they would have released the official numbers immediately instead they swept that under the rug and went on to the next big event. No biggie, just be honest and say it bombed...it is what it is.Comment
