He stayed down long enough to give himself an excuse for quitting.
I don't think Scott had any way of knowing that the ref would consider someone knocked out if he was down at 9.

It seems that there are 2 sides to this disagreement. One side believes in following the rules of the sport, the other side want to perform Freudian analysis on Scott and talk about his motives and mind-reading abilities, and don't really care that he was up in time.

The other side see Scott starting to get up.

He wasn't up when the ref waved it off (which was the 10 count), the rules of the sport don't tell the ref to let the fight continue because the guy who got knocked down almost made it up in time.

Agreed.... I was cheering for chisora because i think scott is a hairdressing clown from the mean streaks of "phillie" but unless he told the ref he quit the fight should have continued

        • everyone sees thing differently & i won't say what "might" of happened. You just can't speculate because if the fight goes on scott may have stepped on chisora's foot & makes him fall awkwardly tearing his ACL... I saw scott look at his corner at the 5 or 6 count & give them a nod & then look back at the ref following his count & got up at nine. If you are quitting you don't look at your corner & nod then try to get up...

          • This settles it!

I am going to end this debate once and for all. We all know the greatest boxer of all time is Rocky Balboa. Watch his rematch fight against Apollo Creed in Rocky II. In the final round they both fall to the canvas; Apollo by virtue of being hit and Rocky from losing his footing. Rocky manages to pull himself up using the ropes and is only freestanding as the referee's count of 'ten' is called. Apollo remains on the canvas. Rocky therefore wins!

How definitive an understanding of the ten count do you need!

According to the Rocky rules of boxing, and they overrule, Scott should have been allowed to continue.

Glad Chisora won though. He's great to watch.

            • Why do people keep saying he was fine? He wouldn't have stayed down until 9 if he was fine. He was hurt more than a lot think or he wanted out and the ref gave him it.

              • Wow, Chisora beat a top 50 fighter with no power that has beaten no one. I am highly impressed.

                • Malik Scott felt the pressure for the first time and decided to pack it in. End of debate.

                    Pretty much.

How? he was jabbing air and spent the rest of the time lying on the ropes. I think he landed two good punches in the entire round. Scott's leg movement had slowed significantly.

If you had Scott up by a round going into the 6th then you had him down by a point going into the 7th since the 6th was a 10-8. There was a poll on ESB on who would have won if the fight continued, last I looked it was 40-5 in favour of Del Boy. The right man won, even if circumstances were not ideal.

                      Please stop with that shyt.

I knew somebody would come and say some crap like this. Fact is, Scott was the favorite, unbeaten in 32 or whatever and had a very good amateur background. This guy wasn't a hype job. Chisora was just better and therefore you have to commend him his victory.

Scott is still a very good fighter.
