    Dan Rafael: "Garcia-Matthysse nearly set"

"Golden Boy is trying to wrap up the junior welterweight showdown between unified titlist Danny Garcia and interim titleholder Lucas Matthysse, which is one of the best fights in boxing. Although the main focus has been on finalizing it as a Sept. 7 Showtime main event, Schaefer said there is a possibility that it could land on the Sept. 14 Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Canelo Alvarez card as the co-feature. If that happens, the show would rank as one of the best pay-per-view cards ever."

I hope so. I doubt it lands on September 7th now, especially with the rumor of Golden Boy planning to put Ponce-Russell on September 7th in El Paso. And Chavez-Vera is September 7th, I'd think they want Garcia-Matthysse not going up against Chavez, who is draw whether we like it or not.

Ever since I saw Sam Watson say the fight was likely I thought it was likely to be made.

People jump the gun too quick.

People said Mayweather-Canelo wouldn't get made next and Garcia-Matthysse wouldn't get made next and look now, they might be on the same card

Exactly. Hey man, I haven't seen your opinion of it yet, what do you think of the Floyd-Canelo CW at 152??? I wish he would have just fought him at 154, but to me it's like Pacquiao-Cotto. Canelo is dropping two lbs and he did weigh at 153 I believe for his last fight, and will be much much bigger than Floyd on fight night.

To me though, you can't criticize the CW if you didn't criticize Pac-Cotto and vice-versa.

I think having a co-main event would be the best way to go to open up both Garcia and Matty to new markets/fan-bases considering how popular May and Nelo are. This would also be their foot in the door to future matches on the West coast/Vegas, etc.

I agree, good point. Like I told TX above, a co-main event would really do wonders for the winner, and even the loser of the Garcia vs. Matty matchup.

Dan, I think a lot of people will be "eating crow" when this fight is finally "set in stone."

If it does land on on the undercard it's with the intent of getting winner the exposure of maybe 1.6-2 million viewers or more.

Me too, but I don't think it will be a problem. Nelo has plenty of time to safely shed extra weight.
