I said even before the adonis fight, that dawson was shot.....

I had a thread saying he was the next jermain taylor and alot disputed that, then he got iced in 1 by adonis and kinda proved my point

The thing is-- his brain has been rattled too many times... He already had a bunch of fights, then going down in weight and gettting beatdown by ward, hurt the dudes brain, once your brain is rattled it never comes back healthy, even if dawson goes back to his normal weight, once the damage is done, there is no coming back.. Yes he may win some more fights, but dude will never be elite again like when we was beating adamek, hopkins, johnson, tarver...

Dawson is done..... Said it before the adonis fight and have yet to be proven wrong...
He needs to get out, because the Adonis shot scrambled his brains some more.. He needs to stay away or he will become like meldrick, toney, jermain, etc guys that can hardly speak anymore....
Berto in the same category with dawson..
Both guys have noticeable speech problems now....

A reasonable post. But since do we equate no longer being elite with being shot. I'd still say he's one of the 3 or 4 best lightheavyweights in the world. Difficult to imagine a shot fighter being amongst the best in his division, no?

People can say that manny and other fighters have comeback from knockouts, and that is true,, but their brains werent rattled repeatedly, they there ko'd and fight was over...

Its when you get rocked, and the brain swells and you keep fighting because you beat the 10 count,, thats when guys take permeant damage...

          Examples are
Tito knocking down vargas in the 1st and vargas taking a beating with swollen brain till the 12th
Berto getting rocked early by Ghost and ortiz and making it to the final bell
Meldrick taylor taking a huge beating from chavez
kassim ouma taking shots from GGG for ten rounds

Guys that get iced like hearns, manny, duran, can recover from those beatings because once they got rocked and brain may swell, but the fight is over,,, Not alot of long term damage done...

True that he may not be totally shot,, but i do think that he is headed there in a hurry....
He is a big name so i can see him getting some more major fights,, but i dont want to see him get destroyed again....
His speech was horrible after the ward fight and is probably worse now that adonis bombed on him....
I dont ever see him regaining his past glory, so why continue to take beatings..
Can u imagine what Kolovev would do to him,,

Dawson has had a great career,, but he needs to get out

On the contrary i consider him in his prime.

Getting knocked out by a super middleweight, and rendered comatose in one punch by a 35 year old rapist only solidifies my beliefs.

How does everyone define a "shot" fighter? To me a shot fighter is one who's skills have visibly declined and can no longer or is afraid to pull the trigger.

You don't think Dawson will be afraid to pull the trigger after this loss?

there are degrees of deteioration. obviously chad dawson should be favored against journeymen.

dawson is clearly deteriorated. he could never pull the trigger. he's done being a world championship level fighter and a serious name in the division.

what dawson had was physical talent. coordination, speed, and size. hte size is still htere, but the other two have detiorated.

again, he was stopped by one shot in one round by adonis stevenson. in '08 chad dawson was a very good fighter.

it becomes more of a question of how long you need to see a fighter deteriorated before you stamp an imaginary "shot" sticker on his forehead. does that really matter? look at what he was, and look now.
