When was the last time Mayweather faced a legitimate Threat?

The answer is never. I'm not interested in splitting hairs. In terms of Floyd being the overwhelming underdog and everybody in the streets talking about how he's "probably going to get killed" and all that sort of business it's never happened. Floyd has never faced an opponent of that level of threat to him. Not the way Bernard Hopkins has on countless occasions, not the way Muhammad Ali did when he faced George Foreman, Pacquiao when he faced De La Hoya, Duran when he faced Barkley, ect, ect, ect.
De La Hoya was an overwhelming favourite on paper, but the risk was very, very calculated. Roach knew what he was doing and even told everyone as much. "Oscar can't pull the trigger anymore" and definitely not at a depleted 147lbs on fight night.
Even though your answer is a little ignorant, I can only assume you think that way because Mayweather is just much better than anyone else around so no one is a threat to him, unless he starts fighting middleweights. If you don't mean that, then you're dumping on a lot of very good and excellent fighters that Mayweather's beaten. Basically, you are in a inadvertent way, saying Mayweather is just too good for everyone. Is that what you think?Comment

And here was me thinking you were going to say Robert Guerrero. I mean you did say Mayweather would duck him didn't you? Why was that again? Paste your pre-negotiation post for everyone to remind us why you said Robert Guerrero was a "legitimate" threat that Mayweather would duck.Comment

So, Mayweather faces De La Hoya at a weight Pacquiao would not dare fight (not even against Cotto, who he already destroyed), and gets no credit for it. Pacquiao faces an older De La Hoya, at a weight De La Hoya hadn't made for over seven years (which he actually fought at as well, yep 147lbs on the button) and you're going to list that amongst the fights you did? A "legitimate" threat would've been facing Shane Mosley under the same circumstances, but you remember Freddie Roach's rationale for that not happening, don't you? Three words: "he's too good".

Is that what you think?Do you really think you can convince me purely based on REVISIONIST bull**** that De La Hoya was never any threat to Pacquiao?? He was, tool bag. Until the fight took place. Everybody was saying Manny was going to get destroyed. LOOK AT MY POST AGAIN, IDIOT. Never mind what happened after the fact. Moron.

I already pointed out that De La Hoya was the favourite on paper, but at the same time, the man in the know, Freddie Roach, knew exactly what he was doing. He told all of us, for pete's sake! Let me ask you this, why would he let Pacquiao fight De La Hoya at 147lbs and not Mosley? He knew which fighter his man could beat and was very candid about it.
The point I'm making is what fans sometimes think about a fight is superficial. And it definitely was in this case. Also, why didn't people think Oscar was as much a threat to Mayweather, even though he faced De La Hoya under more difficult circumstances? You said it yourself, no one thought Mayweather was "gonna get killed". Is that because he's just too good?
Try not to get so upset this time and answer the questions like a grown up.Comment

Ahhh, name calling. The sure sign of a lack of intelligence and skill in debate.

The reason, Einstein, was because Manny Pacquiao was basically a FEATHERWEIGHT moving up to Welterweight when he faced De La Hoya. Need I explain Floyd's situation??
I wasn't calling you an "idiot" for no reason, son. You're an idiot. Don't you worry about "name calling."Comment

Yeah, you're clearly a genius.

The difference between Pacquiao's situation and the others you named is because the situation might have been hyped up, but it really was a sham and Roach told everyone so. Pacquiao may have been a featherweight, but if you took the time to analyze the situation, look beneath the surface, you'd have known that Pacquiao was going to enter the ring at the 145lbs mark, like he had against Marquez in fight two. Oscar had stated he was not only making 147lbs, but fighting at 147lbs. It was there if you cared to see it. Pacquiao was a lightweight fighting at welterweight for the first time against someone who just couldn't function anymore (Roach's assertion PER-FIGHT not mine). It was a fantastic sell and everyone ate it up. Had Oscar performed against Mayweather and Stevie Forbes like a George Foreman on the rampage?
I'll try again seeing as you either can't answer to or choose to be blissfully ignorant. How do you define "legitimate" threat? Also, I'd say that Margarito and Pacquiao are the two fights that Mayweather should have taken but didn't to date. Would he have been serious, long odds underdog against either? Who would've he have been one against?Comment
