    for me its different
i find it hard for someone to hit a perfect power punch againts a running opponent vs an opponent that goes war with u

thats why i kind of think of it as a weak chined fighter when his running backwards and he get sent down
because when ur receiving a punch while ur moving or running away from it its kind of minimize the force or impact
vs the punch that land while ur moving towards it aka pac style KO

by the way to people talking about marquez i dont find him as a runner
his kind of a stand ur ground counter punching and he himself actually went to war so he pass the test of being a tested chin

as i said i think for us to know if the dude has a great chin he has to be in a war at some point for us to judge how great his chin is?

there are fighters that refuse to show us that though, like ex. floyd or rego or lara, they are happy with what their doin which is running so its hard to judge

as everyone know that going to war is just ****** to do but u have to accept its the only way we as a fan can tell how great a fighters chin is

Weak chin or not, the running style is not pleasing to watch to casual fans. Boxers with such style should expect this and be content in being undercard fighters.

They have difficulty fighting and being close to their opponents, so it wouldn't make sense for them to stand and trade; they need to keep their distance and box smart. Rigondeaux and Lara do exactly that. Amir Khan is too ****ing dumb to understand.
So prime Ali had a bad chin?
And wille pep had a bad chin?
Pernell Whitaker had a bad chin?
So using foot work automatically means you have a glass chin?

The level of dip****ed-ness in this thread is remarkable.

Lara got put down by a monster puncher In angulo.

Ali had a terrific chin, as does mayweather, ward, martinez etc and they are considered boxers(runners)

                Simply no...

A weak chin obviously wont match to a brawling style but a light footed boxer doesn't equate to a weak chin.

Its a style taught and honed that promotes boxing longevity. For example you always knew the likes of Gatti, Hatton and Ward would eventually fade due to war damage but fighters such as Hopkins carry on and on because they evade being hit.

There are lots of examples but two spring to mind, Mayweather and SR Leonard.

Most runners don't like to get hit. They don't always have weak chins but if stood and traded, more of them would get that chinny tag as they got knocked out.

                    I dont agree at all.

Boxers box because they can, they are more skilled and intelligent than the vast majority of brawlers. Avoiding punches dont mean you cant take one, it just means you realize the objective of the sport is hit and not get hit and is good enough at it to do so.

It has a lot to do with prolonginging their careers and being healthy after they retire too. Not to mention punch resistance is temporary if you rely on it too much, look at vargas and mayorga for example.

They took so much pride in being able to take a shot they never learned how to box defensively and as a result their punch resistance went and they could do neither by the time most of the big fights came along. Subsequently they were both knocked out repetedly when it mattered most.

Even a fighter with a great chin can get knocked out if hes hit just right, look at martinez-williams.

Long story short only a fool would choose to take more punches than he has to regardless of how well his chin holds up to them.

For the record lara isnt a runner nor does he have a weak chin. Angulo is a ferocious puncher, you would need to have a granite jaw to take his shots without being effected in the least. Lara has a good chin, if it was bad he would have been knocked out. There is a middle ground between granite and glass you know. Or i guess angulo has a glass jaw for being knocked out by kirkland.

No and that is how you should fight against a puncher like Angulo. You don't go to the puncher well I wouldn't advice it anyway.

That was also the first time in his pro career he has been down and Angulo as slow as he is, is very heavy handed. Lara has a very good beard.

Being a defensive minded boxer isn't the sig of a bad chin, its the sign of a smart fighter.
