  • Angelo was on his way to victory if it wasn't for a freak injury. Credit to Lara for sticking in there despite two devastating knockdowns, and landing the punch that caused the eye injury on Angelo. But no boxer intends to win in that manner so the win was lucky. Angulo was on the up! Would like to see a rematch as I don't think Lara proved enough tonight especially considering Angulo's limited talent.

I, too, expected a Lara shutout; but, in retrospect, I'm more impressed with Landy's actual performance than with a whitewash.

As expected, Lara clearly out-boxed Angulo. It was Alfredo's "Terminator-like" relentlessness and superior stamina that made it a fight. Not too many guys can sustain that kind of effort over the course of that many rounds. If a fighter can withstand nearly unlimited punishment and keep pressing forward with good power shots, he'll break down all but the greatest boxers.
Because Lara was headhunting last night. He threw like what 5 body shots.

      • It was a good win and a lost as well. He showed heart and resiliency that can't be denied, but he had to go trough hell and back with a lesser opponent. His still the same fighter that tends to forget the game plan when his under pressure. That was the only reason I gave Angulo a chance to pull the upset and he was on his way to victory, but this is boxing and one punch can change everything. And haha at DannYanke, Lara fighting.to please the crowed

How you figured Angulo was on his way to a victory? He only won the KD rounds and Lara got up from both KDs to dominate the rest of the round.

I guess he was on his way to beating Kirkland too right?

He showed superior boxing skills and ability which is to be expected because Angulo is not very good, frankly. He wasn't very good in his prime and he isn't now he's passed it. Since coming back he's looked horrible.

Lara just further showed me his limitations and a non existant inside game. He showed he's skilled, fast, sharp and on the outside very good but also further showed me he's one dimensional.

No top fighter should be having issues with Angulo at this point.
He didn't look so horrible last night, and it wasn't because Lara wasn't good himself. As you yourself said, Landy was fast, skilled and sharp from the outside, yet Angulo was able to keep pressing and continually land good shots to the body. You're right in saying that Lara has no inside game. It's a flaw, and it might cost him some day, but the motivated "Perro" that we saw last night would've been a handful for virtually anyone at 154. That combination of relentlessness, stamina and power is a tough nut to crack. A lesser fighter would've withered.

            • Excellent fight. Lara has a lion's heart. I do think Angulo would have won, but Lara destroyed his eye with a legal punch and wrestled victory from defeat. I'd love to see a rematch. Both guys deserve some respect.

Those that thought Angulo was a talent less brawler and had no chance and those that thought Lara didn't have a fighters demeanor. Excellent, excellent fight!!

Im guessing you didn't stick around to see that two judges had Lara up by one point and another judge had Angulo up by 3. It was a very close fight and Angulo was getting closer while Lara was tiring

He looked horrible to me last night.

Slow, uncoordinated, sloppy, sluggish, footwork laughably poor and slow.

The only reason he had any success at all is down to the fact Lara has no inside game and doesn't tie up at all. If he did, he'd have knocked him out mid way through the fight. Which is what I was expecting anyway because I knew from the outside he's just going to kill him every time.

Only thing that surprised me was that Lara allowed him to stay on him without spinning out but it also didn't surprise me all that much because I knew Lara was non existant there.

You're dreaming if you think Angulo is a problem for anyone at 154, atleast from where I stand.

Angulo's not going to beat any legitimate top 154 lber.

Molina, Trout, Cotto, Canelo all deal with him easily.

I wouldn't be surpised if Ishe Smith beat him either.

He's not very good, at all. Especially at this point.

                    Lucky? lol Oh, boy....

A fighter can have a few different game-plans. Breaking his opponent down by an accumulation of punches is one of them. While Angulo was targeting Lara's body, Erislandy was targeting Alfredo's head. If Lara had folded from body-shots, would that have been luck on Angulo's part? That damage to "Perro's" eye wasn't caused by one punch. Lara was landing hard shots to that area all night. He was throwing with bad intentions. Angulo's face finally caved in. But I suppose that was just luck....

                      Absolutely.

He's a one dimensional fighter IMO.

I still think he's one of the best fighters at 154 though, with that said.
