His focus point should be body punching, taking steam out of Matthysse's power and Peterson is capable of that.
Pretty much what I think Peterson's going for. Lucas is going snatch his soul doe.

Atleast early. Much like the Khan fight, he went out there with the intent to outbox him but made the adjustment.

That's where Peterson would have the edge in this fight IMO.
Peterson's ability to box isn't any better than Judah or Alexander's, he doesn't seem as comfortable doing it as he does being the aggressor. He may have some success early but Matthysse won't respect his boxing ability. I remember him trying that against Ortiz, Khan, Bradley and that didn't end well, in fact one could simply go back to his last fight in which he lost the first 2 or was it 3 rounds against Holt? I know starting slow is an issue, but his boxing ability has regressed in comparison to what I saw earlier in his career.

I hope Peterson doesn't go in thinking he's going outbox Matthysse, because he will lose too many rounds doing that. He's not as good at distance as either Judah or Alexander, who Lucas beat in most opinions, and Lucas will hurt him.

If he goes inside right away, looking to work the body and sap Matthysse's strength, he could take the end of the fight convincingly. This fight's result depends on how Matthysse can fight inside. If he holds his own, he'll beat the crap out of Lamont. If not, Lamont takes the fight.

Agree with the bold, and Matthysse has not shown me whether he has the skill set to do that. He's not afraid to let loose in close, but it's whether he can roll shots in close, counter effectively, show that he has the physicality, that's what we're gonna find out pretty soon. His game from mid range is proven.

I'd say "ending well" is precisely what happened in the Ortiz fight in regards to his gameplan to box. Took him a while to get started but once he got Ortiz's timing he outboxed him rather easily.

That said, I'd agree that his boxing ability isn't any better than Zab Judah's or Devon Alexander's. But with that also said, Alexander and Judah both had a fair bit of success outboxing Matthysee at times. Even Humberto Soto did at times albeit seldom. I don't doubt that Peterson will have atleast some success outboxing Matthysee in spots.

Difference between him and those other 3 fighters is his inside game is far superior to those 3.

I still think Matthysee will win the fight though.

I think it's a safe bet he will come out attempting to box.

I also think he's atleast as good at distance as Zab Judah. Especially the one that Matthysee fought.

Peterson is a good boxer IMO.

I expect him to both box and fight inside and mix up and I think he'll have success.

But I think Matthysse will have no respect for his power and do some damage late in the fight.

A part of me is leaning towards Matthysse as well, Peterson can't afford to start slow and his stamina better be well in tact, I do remember those moments where he got fatigued against Khan and Hunter literally had to scream and motivate him.

Lamont, you don't hit hard. You aren't going to hurt Warthysse. Accept it and May 19th will be easier for you.

I just don't see Peterson beating Matthysse. Lucas is not going to be denied this time. He is the boogeyman for a reason!
