Comments Thread For: Lamont Peterson Says His Power Not Given Proper Credit

Lamont Peterson has one of the toughest assignments of his career ahead of him as he will be facing interim WBC Junior Welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse this Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall airing live on Showtime.

Matthysse has made a name for himself due to his recent destruction of competition and his lethal punching power. Peterson was on the most recent edition of BoxingScene Radio and said while he may not be regarded as a puncher, he feels he’s not given enough credit for his power.

He never put Amir Khan on ***** street, despite landing heavy on him for almost all of the fight. You're damn right no one is talking about your power, not when you're stepping in the ring with Lucas Matthysse.

If Peterson stops Matthysse, you will never convince me he wasn't juiced. He has never, ever, ever shown that type of power.

Good measuring stick IMO. He hit Khan pretty clean sometimes and not once was Khan on ***** street. He was on his bike, but not ***** street.

He def hurt Khan a few times in that fight. Shoot, Khan survived Maidanas 10th round onslaught. Khan has a better chin than ppl give him credit for. His chin is similar to Juanmas. He take take a ton of huge shots before he eventually folds. Peterson throws real hard shots I think he can hurt Lucas.

I agree with Lamont, if he had no power Victor Ortiz and Khan would have never backed off after their early success. I am excited for this fight, more than for any pay-per-view fight in a couple of years. Betting odds have not moved from -220 for Lucas +170 for Lamont, these numbers are just enough to keep me from betting on either.

Peterson never had Khan hurt like Maidana did in the 10th. When everyone and their mother is dropping Khan, and you barely make him wobble despite landing your best shots, your power is nothing special. Peterson can hit, but not hard enough to say he has real power.

Even Diaz had Khan wobbly in his fight.
Maidana didn't drop him, but he gave Khan amnesia
