The problem is that Rigo is not young. He's 32. Abner is 27.

This probably is as much as Rigo will naturally fill up. He's wiry and short.

Had we seen him since he was 20, 122 would probably be his 3rd division.

While I don't agree with it, in this modern boxing landscape he'd catch a lot of **** for it. Boxing has changed a lot since then, people get **** on for one loss. You don't jump weight classes you're not any good. You get called out by anyone wether it's a legit fight or not and you don't fight them you're ducking.

I don't agree with it one bit, but that's the reality of boxing these days...its disgusting how manny get's KOd by JMM and all of a sudden is washed up...done....wasn't good to begin with...

Except if he's going to move up might as well fight whats considered the better 126er (thus far) in Garcia...who's with Top Rank. Makes no sense for Rigo. Mares decided to move up, lost his chance.

And to answer your question...a Donaire rematch IMO as i feel Donaire is a better fighter than Mares. Mares is unfortunately the odd man out and isnt the one with leverage as he doesnt have access to the best fighters at 122 or 126.

Sucks, really but thats how it goes.

I'd take a dominant one class champion over a guy collecting titles in every class against a weaker champ. At the end of the day, there's a lot to be said when youre universaly recognized as the best man in your weight in the world as opposed to a guy who fought one random champ and moved on. There's always that little doubt of "Well maybe THIS guy would have beaten him!". That applies to guys fighting the weaker champs of course and of course not taking unifications into account either. Now if you unify in multiple weight classes vs good comp then youre a stud. But no less than lets say a Mavin Hagler... Just different strokes for diff folks. Some guys just arent genetically built to cut abnormal amounts of weight then "balloon" up (which theyre not they just cut less in most cases lol).

Rigo's a really small, lean guy. I believe him when he says he eats and eats and doesn't gain weight. The man was at 122 weeks before the Donaire fight. He might even be better suited to 118. Not much sense in moving up.

I hope that talk of a Rigondeaux fight in Miami materializes. I would definitely be there.

Like I said before, Rigo would be too small against Mares. He doesn't have a really big body.

He's going to end his career at 122. I think he can possibly get a title at 118 if he tries. He should just unify all the titles and just beast that division.

Mares is a guy who probably should be fighting at 130. He's a big guy.

This fight will never happen anyways. Rigo has all the skills but his chin is going to get him KO'd eventually. He's got the best D but he still gets tagged and rocked from time to time. Its too bad he's with Top Rank. Guess he has Vic to look forward to. That should be an interesting match up.

                    Rigo playing duck duck goose.

Real champions move up. Look at how many weight classes Floyd and Pac moved through. Rigo needs to find some heart and some balls if he wants to ever be considered as a potential ATG.
