All of the blind Mares fans gonna say crap like he "destroys him" and run away under the Golden Boy vs Top rank feud skirt that would prevent it from actually happenning and lets em talk trash pray to God it would happen another one exposed.

Mares fears NO ONE! His Resume Backs That Up so I know he is willing to fight, but it is that b1tch Bob Arum that will likely keep it from Happening.

I would LOVE to see it!

I like this potential match up a lot better than Donaire/Rigondeaux. Abner and Guillermo have very similar styles. Unlike the stagnant Nonito, both are very versatile, flexible, can easily make adjustments and fight extremely well off their back foot.

In addition, both have shown occasional tendencies to be a bit reckless and vulnerable to power in the ring as they both have been hurt by punches from their opponents.

However with that being said; Overall Rigondeaux is the much better and well rounded fighter of the two and therefore I would favor him in this match up. Not only is he a southpaw but everything Mares can do Rigondeaux can also do but he does it better.

He is the better boxer with the superior footwork of the two but he also may be the stronger puncher also. If Abner stand any chance of defeating Guillermo; Then unlike Nonito Donaire, he is going to have to be willing to make mistakes and take several risks in the process as this could prove to be very costly as well as his own undoing against a precise counter puncher like Rigondeaux.

Of course he does, Abner Mares will fight anybody. I'd pick Rigo to win, but Mares is becoming one of my favorite fighters.

Rigo does not brawl better than Mares and that's exactly what Mares will turn it into. We know he does any and everything to win including making it dirty. Then you add in the fact that Abner looked really solid at 126 and that's a big advantage for him there. PDL can ****, and he took his best shots over and over. Mares is well versed against southpaws as well, Vic, Moreno and now PDL on his ledger. If Rigo is going to win, he better come to fight because Mares does not and will not for him to initiate the action. The kid is smart and k owns how to tailor his game to each fighter. He's not going to try to outbox Rico, he's going to fight him every minute of every round. Rico better hope he has enough to withstand the barrage. Mares looks solid, real good at featherweight.

You prove my point exactly! If Mares was to win, then he is going to have to take chances by cutting off the ring and making it a dog fight. However, that proposition is also a double edge sword because he is going have to go inside the teeth of the lion in order to do so, given Rigo's power and counter punching ability.

If Abner is able to pin Guillermo along the ropes or better, if his chin holds up from those lazer-like counters from Rigo, then he has a legitimate chance of winning. However, if he recklessly charges into a punch he doesn't see, then it could also spell trouble for him, as was witnessed in the Anselmo fight; Who at the time was not even considered a puncher but yet manged to hurt Abner several times while charging in. Rigondeaux is much harder puncher than Moreno.

Mares KO's Rigo. Mares will keep pressing the action and will catch the glass chin of Rigo. unlike Donaire who gets confused and gun shy when he gets countered.

PDL was landing counters on Mares all night, put for his part Mares took them very well. But PDLs defense is nowhere near Rigos so could be a long night for Mares. Rigo by decision. I do think he'll make it a closer fight then Donaire did, by just trying harder.

That notion has been disproven. Rigo took some hard shots from Donaire, including a left hook on the break, and never flinched. If anyone gets KOed in this match-up, it's Abner. In pressing the action, Mares will subject himself to some heavy, accurate shots. "El Chacal" is a defensive specialist and a counterpunching menace. Once Abner feels the power, he'll slow up and Guille will start to pick him apart.
