Yeah, and Cordoba was being easily outboxed through six rounds until Rigo touched down with his glove and decided to get on his bike. (Seems like a million years ago, doesn't it? lol) The remainder of the fight was like watching paint dry, but Cordoba certainly didn't give Guillermo any trouble. Rigo simply chose not to engage and coasted on points.

All my points on Rigo if this ever happens.

Can't bet right now because I have a bit riding on Matthysse, will negotiate after he destroys Peterson.

Even tho Mares keeps coming he seems to gas in the late rounds. And Rigo would land at will. Mares would give Rigo a more competitive fight than Donaire but he ain't winning. He can't outbox Rigo and if he decides to bum rush like he did vs Moreno he's gonna eat some body shots.

If it's true he was never down before my guess is he was in culture shock and went into panick mode. That was only his 6th or 7th pro fight so whatever. Another piece to the puzzle right now is Diaz. He'll find a way to beat Mares.

I realize I may be completely underestimating Rigondeaux. I'm just sick of underestimating Mares. I picked him to beat Ponce and he still ended up surprising me.
Mares is good; Rigo is better. Abner is adaptable and comes with a plan. However, few fighters have "El Chacal's" ring IQ. Additionally, Rigo has Diaz as his trainer. I believe Pedro is very skilled at mapping the winning course in fights. In my opinion, Mares's hope lies in pressuring Guillermo relentlessly. Trouble is, Rigo is not only a master boxer, he also has KO power. Abner could easily be caught coming in by a sniper blast. I'd love to see this fight, if by some miracle it comes to pass.

Much respect to Mares for wanting this fight. He's always challenging himself. I don't think there's another young undefeated champ that can match his opposition.

I wondered any times why Rigo went into evasive mode after the Cordoba "KD." Before the Donaire fight, I finally came to the conclusion that Guille, being in unfamiliar waters, simply reverted to amateur mode and decided to coast on points. It was only his seventh pro fight, so the idea seemed quite reasonable. After Nonito, I became convinced. Rigo engaged, took a few good shots and never flinched, even with the knockdown.

I agree about Diaz. In fact, I made a similar comment in my previous post. Pedro is one of the best coaches in the game, as far as I'm concerned. He's a scientist.

After Floyd fought Cotto people talked about his legs were gone but after watching Floyd this weekend I think his performance vs Cotto had a lot to do with Cotto but it also had a lot to do with Diaz. Having a Ph.D in Pedagogical Sciences helps but you can't study gameplanning for fights and to my concern this man is a PRO at it.
