I wouldn't put the blame on Floyd in this case. Many people on BS mentioned before that this fight had little to no promotion so what did they expect? Usually when Floyd fights you would see billboards everywhere, TV spots, commercials playing at the theaters months in advance of the fight. It's like Showtime was sleeping on the event altogether and didn't really start pushing it until the middle of April. Heck, many of the boxing fans I know personally had no idea about All Access until two weeks before the fight. Showtime dropped the ball on this one imo. If they do another Mayweather PPV, they better step it up as soon as the fight is announced.
MayDay ShowPPV, less than 1M PPV buys?

Could hurt future earnings, if true
Anything below 850k PPV buys is unacceptable, especially from an expectation stand-point for the Mayweather brand. He will lose some percentage points in "Negotiation Power" if the buys are below 850k. He largely sold the event himself for a fight on a Mexican holiday. The sports largest fanbase in Mexicans, their deep rooted boxing culture, along with the sports so called Era's Best Fighter should be able to sell over a million easily, IMO.Comment

They're expected to do very little in the promotional
aspect with the understanding that this is Floyd.
Blame Floyd's very little appearance in front of the media.
SHO would have loved to see numerous press conferences.
There was only one. Floyd is Floyd. He can do whatever he
wants with his time.

I think they thought they'd do more!!!! The opponent wasn't a strong pairing because the average sports fan/boxing fan doesn't know who Robert is! I heard ads for the fight on local radio in Port Charlotte Fl and I've NEVER heard a boxing show ad on the radio here in 20 years!
All in all using Robert was a good match up because of Floyds in activity but your not doing great numbers without a better draw! Nothing against Robert abnd ad in the factor that Floyds fight are NOT known to be exciting in regards to knock downs or stoppage in his last few fights! The average fan who will buy a ppv didn't this time around!
I have coffee on Sat & Sun mornings with a group of guys who are passed baseball players (2) and one hilleah sp) player another is a pro golf instructor and none of them had any interest in the fight! We had a much better talk about Rigo vs Donaire and I think its because Mayweather is the "same show" over & over again. Ray.Comment

Even tho I predicted it would do less than 1 mill, im still suprised
This has been historically the biggest date in boxing and there was only 1 nba playoff game that night and it was over before the Mares fight ended
Pacquiao, Chavez jr or Canelo should get this date from now onComment

Fat Dan has a point about the end of the Pacweather saga having an impact as well. Truth is, even though it was a completely artificial rivalry it mobilised and engaged huge fanbases for both guys. You can still see the effect it has on forums like this one even today.
Rivalries suck people in who normally wouldn't care. When the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight stopped being an issue, a lot of people went back to not caring.Comment
