Floyd will never get credit for anybody he beats.
If he beats Canelo they will say that canelo was young and too green.

Cotto is still the 3rd biggest name in the sport. Canelo is closing hard. Cotto is not shot like some say. He's not prime Cotto but he still held his own against both Floyd & Trout. A win over Cotto in devastating fashion is huge. Canelo's name is just now getting out there in the US mainsteam. The mainstream also wants another rival for Floyd.
Canelo beats Cotto and the whole mainsrteam will be telling Floyd to fight Canelo or he's a duck. They will put massive pressure on him. Even the one's who didnt fully blame him for Pac will start to say "this is 2 times now". The fight & pressure on Floyd will be much bigger in May
and what if for one night, Cotto turns back the clock and outboxes Canelo?
there goes your effing super fight...then we'll get Floyd-Alexander
i'm ****ing tired of boxing shooting itself in the foot...there is ALREADY a demand for this fight RIGHT NOW....why do fight fans justify delaying fights that people want to see?

It's true though. I'm abit sick of it myself. Can understand why promoters do it but there's no need to marinate things for so long. The fight is big right now, not as big as it could be, but it's not guranteed to all work out.
Like you said, Mayweather-Judah was going to be a Super fight. People forget how big that fight was going to be.
Judah was the Undisputied #1 WW, Mayweather was the Undisputied #1 P4P, a good back story there, both talking trash, history between them. That fight is a prime example of failing to strike when the iron was hot ENOUGH to make it happen and letting it "build" and it going down the pan.

Im ok with Cotto winning because if Canelo loses that fight then he doesnt deserve the Floyd fight. He should be able to beat Cotto and make this massive. I mean, what if he beat Cotto while coming into the ring at 165 pounds again? Then people would say Floyd has no excuse at all not to fight him.
I agree that anything can happen but Canelo should win this fight. Not only that but alot of people still blame Floyd for the Pac debacle. Alot of people are really starting to resent his Showtime contract/opponents and alot of people are resenting him for not making the Canelo fight in September like you are.
Therefore, if Canelo wins then all of that comes to a head. There will be massive, massive, massive pressure from fans, media, Showtime, and everyone else for Floyd to fight Canelo. No one will want to hear any of his usual nonsense or excuses. He'll probably be backed into a bigger corner than he was for Pac because that situation already happened.
At this point he better hope Matthysee KTFO of Peterson because thats the only fight that could maybe satisfy fans in the meantime. That adds up to major major major major heat on Floyd after that
