I am very glad you mentioned your university. I proudly finished Trinity College a long time ago. Not economics it was math (part three as well, you should know what it is)
Now down to business. You can bring your friend as well. As we can now discuss as scientists. Could you (or your friend) please refer to any scientific papers where the DIRECT CONVERSION of carbohydrates to lipids are shown (in human body and in significant amount). It's true. But it's better to eat healthy when you've reached your desired weight imo. Eating healthy=less likely to overeat as so called ''healthy'' foods tend to be more filling.Comment

If you really were a Trinity mathmo that's impressive stuff. However, it didn't help with your science if I'm not misinterpreting your implications. You are probably right in saying that carbs don't convert directly into lipids but to say they aren't broken down and assimilated into lipids is silly. Of course you will get fat if you eat too many carbs - and if I've not got it wrong you're implying that you won't.
What I am saying here is that as noone eats ONLY carbs - there are always fats - so eating more carbs has an EFFECT of storing more fat (but the fat that's already there).

It is EXTREMELY unhealthy in my opinion and I am much more for low carbs diets, but that wasn't my point. My point was that carbs are not directly transformed to fats.
The note on my education was due to slightly arrogant comment you made. Yes, I really finished both undergrads and part 3 from Trinity and more than that but that isn't the point. I am not going to prove my point through my background but through the facts.Comment

What's the difference between the conversion of carbs to fats and breaking down to fats? I am not aware of any process in which carbohydrates ALONE become fats (not in the significant amount).

Fat makes you fat. The whole point of low fat diet is based on that. Carbs can't convert to fats. They are carbohydrate, not fat. Only fat gets stored as fat - plain and simple.
Now you are right about the EFFECT of carbs. Only carbs and fats are used as body energy throughout a day, body will use first carbs and then fats. If there is too many carbs body doesn't need to touch fats to get the energy.
In that case carbs would 'protect' fats to be spent and fat will be stored in your body. One more thing is that carbs can't be stored for longer periods of time, fats can.
Insulin ****e will direct your body to use either carbs or fats but carbs that are not spent are not converted to fat. fat is fat, carb is carb.
Eating just maple syrup (almost 80% sugar) as much as you want, but none fat, would not make you any fatter.
Only fat makes you fat in the direct way.
But if you eat only fat and none carbs you are losing only fat (for the energy) and effect of loosing weight is even greater.Comment

it jus amazes me that with the abundance of information out there, people still revert to methodologies and info from the 70s, like straight up. how someone can post these things and preach and claim them as facts, where the info is right under their nose, is simply beyond me. theres not one thing the guy said that was correct, and it really is flabbergasting that people cannot somehow attain the proper knowledge, which is ALL OVER THE PLACE!! and then argue like they have a valid point, and jus by reading it, it sounds plain ******ed for those who actually knows how macros work in the human body. i still think the guy is heavily trolling thoughComment

Do you know what are carbohydrate (chemically) and what are lipids?
Could you please explain to me how two totally different chemical compounds can be transformed to each other?
