This is what happens when a fighter who depends only on speed and reflexes has nothing to fall back on. It was bound to happen he was never a technical or fundementally sound fighter and its coming back to bite him in the ass now.

Murray is not a good fighter. Not even close to a good fighter. Not to take anything from him though its not his fault Sergio is a fish out of water when his reflexes fail him. I think he needs to go to the drawing board if he wants to keep fighting. I think the retirement talk is a tad premature. Hes past it but hes not Shane Mosley shot he can fight on.

I cant quite agree with your point about his workrate, though. I think it was Murray's high guard and the weight and accuracy of his counters that played a role in negating that.

It will be very interesting to see where both these guys go from here.
Murray/Quillin at the Barclays would be cool. If Murray beats Quillin, he can no longer be underestimated.

That is just plain wrong. He is a very good fighter, a solid, disciplined and talented pro who isnt afraid to fight anyone anywhere. Comments like that are ill thought out, show a lack of knowledge and respect for the sport and are anti boxing.

His reflexes have diminished. Being honest I felt he looked soft, compared to normal.

He looked one-dimensional, the speed wasn't there, his jab was not what it was - that was one hell of a weapon. His punch resistance is very questionable IMO 5 of his last 8 have decked him & I'm sorry but Macklin & Murray are not punchers.

Rule them slips or whatever, his punch resistance is on the fade.

I say all this as a fan as hes going to lose to some absolute bum before hes finished. Any other country & he may not of got the nod.

Credit to Murray, he came with a great gameplan, 'he good boy' but for me is the weakest of the trio - Murray, Barker, Macklin, I think both the others beat him soundly I really do.

I don't want to see Sergio fight again after tonight, I had him destroying GGG, Quillin etc before now I think GGG in particular literally ends his life.

Sorry fellow Martinez fans but hes shot to ****. He had a lucky escape tonight.
he looked passed his best alright, he relies too much on his reactions. GGG must be salivating at the thought of a Martinez fight now. But in fairness as much as martinez looking sub par it wasnt all about him - Murray put in a great performance. When you think about it Murray got the better of Sturm and pushed Martinez damn close ... that's two champs that he arguably got the better of ... when does it stop being 'oh so and so under performed/ is shot' and 'hey wait a minute this Murray dude ain't bad'

I love how people are somehow acting like Martin Murray was a good fight going in and a tough fight that Sergio took......Martin Murray is a domestic level fighter and I feel confident saying Golovkin, Geale, Macklin, Quillin, and even Chavez all beat him.

Sergio wasn't as sharp as the Chavez fight clearly, but he's not past it or shot. Now whether it was the inevitable age factor getting closer to happening, his surgery effecting him, or just an off night.....we won't know until Sergio fights again.

He needs to fight Geale, Golovkin, or Quillin next though. Preferably the first two. Maybe Quillin-Murray could happen, to see which of them is actually the real deal.

What a joke. Chavez got tattooed for 11 rounds. The only reason he didn't get stopped is because of the probable 20 pound weight advantage he had over Martinez.

Really? You guys think he's fading? I just thought he was being reserved or lazy. I mean you don't go from probably the best performance of your career to sub-par. You can chalk it up as you like, I think he was trying to pull Murray into something else so he can look spectacular and it just didn't work out that way. What matters is that he got the win.

Yeah It would. I would love to see Quillin KO Murray lol.
Say what you want but Quillin is on his way to being a monster lol

So basically just a bunch of excuses and no credit given where its due. And lol at 'domestic level fighter'...yeah, domestic level fighter who just beat Sturm and(very arguably) a top 5 p4p fighter in their own back yards. Genius!

Well I think we can all agree.....either Sergio has been effected by a combination of his age and surgery, or he had an off night clearly.

This was basically a joke fight going in, and Murray did better than he was supposed to do. Similar to Provonikov where he put on a good performance against Bradley.

This wasn't some daunting task that the mighty Sergio Martinez decided to step up and face....no this was the equivalent of someone like Pacquiao, Marquez, or Mayweather fighting a Josesito Lopez or something.
